Frank?

What are your thoughts on calling my first born son Frank? I love the name and I know Frankie is very popular but what about just Frank? Or any similar suggestions to go with a very popular surname? I like old fashioned names best.

I have a Frank Smile. He suits his name so much and gets compliments all the time on his name.

It's a proper solid name that has a traditional/retro feel but isn't as cheesy as other more popular 'old man' names like Alfie/Archie/Stanley etc.

Have to say I hate Frankie though.

Grufalosfriend · 22/04/2016 14:00

I like Frank too. Good solid underused name.

Don't like Frankie at all, it sounds so feminine and cutesy.

Bagatelle1 · 22/04/2016 14:03

Oh Betty Grin

Sorry, couldn't resist! For me it will always be associated with "Some mothers do 'ave 'em".

flingingmelon · 22/04/2016 14:05

Frank is a great name. Alternatively Francis?

The Frank I know utterly hates Frankie, but it was used when he was still in nappies :)

Sophronia · 22/04/2016 14:15

I like it. It could also be short for Francis or Franklin.

Vampishtortoise · 22/04/2016 15:17

Thanks everyone, I've really fallen for it I think. And it's meaningful with elderly relatives on both sides of our family so think it might be one we will go with.

Great!

whatdoIget · 22/04/2016 15:46

I like it a lot

SearchingForThatPerfectName · 22/04/2016 15:52

I don't really like it Sad Frankie is so much nicer!

Foodefafa · 22/04/2016 15:54

Luckily it's not your baby then eh Searching.

You have exquisite taste OP Grin.

sonlypuppyfat · 22/04/2016 16:04

Don't like it at all. I think it's quite an ugly sounding name, sorry

SearchingForThatPerfectName · 22/04/2016 16:06

The OP asked for opinions!

plimsolls · 22/04/2016 16:35

I love it and it is on our list. I can't decide whether to have Francis and use Frank day-to-day nickname. It's a brilliant name either way.

CaroleService · 22/04/2016 16:36

I have a Frank. Go for it

justlikeastar · 22/04/2016 22:50

I think it's brilliant name, though I work in a school with the most gorgeous 6 year old Frank in my class so I may be biased!

It's classic and strong without being popular. Go for it. :)

idontlikealdi · 22/04/2016 22:51

I thought at first I didn't like it but I really do, it's great!

I think it is a great name!

Chimchar · 23/04/2016 09:48

I know a teenage frankie, Frank for short. 😊
His 'proper' name is Francis.

I like it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/04/2016 09:57

Love it! Franklin is in our top 3 if future DC2 is a boy.

crje · 23/04/2016 10:05

Not a fan
Prefer Fred

MyNameIsSuz · 23/04/2016 10:30

I have a Franklin, it's a good name! Not too weird but not common either.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/04/2016 10:32

Not a fan at all.

Very ugly name to me.

Muskey · 23/04/2016 10:36

My brother is a Francis but is known as frank or frankie by family. It is a great name

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/04/2016 10:38

Love Frank. Would have been on my own list if not for family connections.
Do not like Frankie - somehow it's an entirely different name to me.
