Thoughts on this name?
Gross? Old fashioned? Definite no-no? Or due a comeback?
Thanks!

Due a comeback.
Lovely name

It's lovely! I have a good friend called Maria. She does get people singing ‘How do you solve a problem like Maria?' sung at her occasionally (all of them thinking that they are the first to think of it!) but it's still a great name.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 17/04/2016 19:14

Lovely!

I really like it. Dd2 has it as a middle name, it was high on our list for a first name.

Dd1 has a friend called Maria - now early twenties, is often called Mia.

Itinerary · 17/04/2016 19:21

A bit old-fashioned, but OK.

DrunctioningFunk · 17/04/2016 19:30

"Mariaaaa, you gotta see her"Grin

Fab name, although I'm going to say that as it's my middle name and my 17 yo dd's :)

If it makes you feel better, my dd loves her middle name and always uses it e.g. When filling forms out .

KatOnATinRo0f · 17/04/2016 20:23

Hmm, that's more positive than I was expecting!

I like it and think it's due a comeback. It's pretty, I like Marie too.

BikeRunSki · 17/04/2016 20:42

Traditional Catholic name. I think of West Side Story rather than The Sound of Music.

isthatmytshirt · 17/04/2016 20:51

Love it. The youngest one I know is early thirties, but I think it's beautiful for little girls :)

(and now a little sad I didn't have it on our list when we were naming our daughter last year Wink )

nectarini1983 · 17/04/2016 20:53

Really like it

Sophronia · 17/04/2016 21:41

It's a beautiful name

DramaAlpaca · 17/04/2016 21:42

Lovely name.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 17/04/2016 22:10

Definitely due a come back. I wish I'd have thought of it for DD. I couldn't even use it for a subsequent DD as dd's name is Molly, so would both be variations of Mary.

Summ3r · 17/04/2016 22:13

I love it and I've been trying to convince dh to name our baby Maria June if this ones a girl

Clawdy · 17/04/2016 22:38

Always loved that name - "Say it loud and there's music playing....say it soft and it's almost like praying......"

cornishglos · 17/04/2016 22:44

We considered it but decided it was a bit too religious.

SuburbanRhonda · 17/04/2016 22:47

Love it Smile

squoosh · 17/04/2016 23:28

I like it. Marie on the other hand sounds a bit sad and limp.

Bit like Julia v Julie.

JessieMcJessie · 17/04/2016 23:41

Very very Catholic name and ubiquitous throughout Latin America.

NadiaWadia · 17/04/2016 23:45

Beautiful, as is Marie.

squoosh · 17/04/2016 23:51

Although it's undoubtedly a Catholic name it was also a popular name in Georgian England (Jane Austen had a few Marias in her books), although generally pronounced as Mariah I believe.
