I would love Tracy as a boys name, but DH vetoed it!

I also love Jesse for a boy, but again DH doesn't like it - boo hiss rah

Any from you?

Berrigan for a boy, nn Berry.
Lettice for a girl.

I seriously considered Django after the wonderful guitarist Django Reinhardt but I just couldn't do it, and the Tarantino film came out shortly afterwards so thank god!

springtimevintagedream · 16/04/2016 08:13

I got an unusual name. I actually rather like it now. There's no doubt it's a disadvantage in certain circles though.

JeanGenie23 · 16/04/2016 10:39

springtime it's a shame you have experienced that, I love hearing a variety of names, I won't be cruel about names like Olivia and Thomas but hearing a child called Sage or Galen would be fantastic. My DD has an old fashioned name, I think there were only 4 other children registered with this name last year (UK) it's not unusual but unheard of now a days. I would love to name our next child Kit (B) or Slyvie (G)
I don't fee brave liking these names, they are just my taste

OhForTheLoveOfGin · 16/04/2016 11:17

Kit and Sylvie are gorgeous names. I'd love to know what your DD is called jeangenie

JeanGenie23 · 16/04/2016 11:57

The clue is in my username Gin Blush

OhForTheLoveOfGin · 16/04/2016 12:00
Grin
AndersArms · 16/04/2016 12:01

gin are you a Battlestar Galactica fan?

mrspod89 · 16/04/2016 14:36

Elvis! I found out today we are expecting a little boy but in all seriousness I couldn't call him Elvis and DH has veto 'd it.

Pinklily1 · 16/04/2016 16:26

Gin - Hera is a lovely name. I've not heard it before but its very pretty.

Pinklily1 · 16/04/2016 16:32

I love Delilah, but OH vetoed that and said everyone would think of Tom Jones Hmm

Thurlow · 16/04/2016 17:51

Absolutely adore Hera (BSG fan here) but DP even vetoed it for the cat Sad

EagleRay · 16/04/2016 17:59

I had an unusual name in mind for DD1. DP vetoed. I pushed on and got my way. He now loves the name (and middle names) and seems to be giving me free rein for DD2 who will be along soon. I've just got her names figured out now and they're equally unusual.

I've broken all the rules regarding naming and don't give a shiny shit what anyone thinks. All of the names have some sort of special meaning to us and I get a bit emotional when I think about them!

OhForTheLoveOfGin · 16/04/2016 18:26

Yes huge BSG fan hereGrin

Eventually went for the Roman equivalent of Hera for DD (Juno) . Was the only name we could agree on!

Strokethefurrywall · 16/04/2016 18:36

DH and wanted to use Dylan if DS1 was a girl (4 1/2 years ago).
I wouldn't use it now though because I hear Kerry Katona called her most recent child Dylan-Jorge.
Absolutely ruined it for me.

maggiethemagpie · 19/04/2016 20:32

Josiah

Bellatrix: A big nono after Harry Potter, I think.

Beatrix: If I couldn't have Bellatrix... But nooo, my mum's sister is called Beatrice and their relationship is rather strained.

Severin: Sounds too much like severing in English

Iola: The way English people pronounce it makes it sound like hooting/jeering in my native language... So everytime somebody said her name I'd hear "hooting" :(

1horatio · 19/04/2016 20:52

Oh, and Lycoris. Lovely name, but I don't think I'm brave enough for that. Don't want to be hated by our child for our choice in names...

zoomtothespoon · 19/04/2016 22:53

Hector and Atlas- both vetoed.

If I had to choose, I'd go with Hector. My son would have been the most amazing Hector. He just looks like one!

princessdave · 20/04/2016 09:30

DH vetoed Quentin and Percy for a boy without a moments hesitation - Percy especially would be a target for bullies apparently. Funnily enough our DS is now at nursery with a Quentin.

He also vetoed Celine and Delphine but gave the ok to Camille and Sabine. We had a boy so it didn't matter.

None of these even require bravery but they're about as "out there" as my naming choices got to be honest.

Luciferbox · 20/04/2016 09:34

Clementine or Astrid. I've only got boys so it might happen one day. DS2 does have a brave name I guess as most people can't pronounce it properly.

FeralBeryl · 20/04/2016 09:37

Oh God a couple of my RL DD's names are in here Blush
Not made up ones though!
My name that I didn't use was
Persephone - Purse-Sef-Phone-Eee

But when I trialled it on people,B they were saying PurseyPhone Hmm so that was that.

Grufalosfriend · 20/04/2016 09:56

SO manybrilliant names on this thread! I particularly like

Clementine
Delphine
Constance
Fabian
Quentin
Magnus
Hector

I actually don't find any of the particularly 'brave' choices.
