From a previous thread really. I think it's a pretty name but presumably not used at the moment? Out of interest can anyone cleverer than me find out how many babies were called Isis in the last year or two?

Hopefully this link will work:

names.darkgreener.com/#isis

CoteDAzur · 08/04/2016 21:50

Are you serious? True, not many babies in the English-speaking world have been named Isis in the last couple of years, presumably because it has become the name of a terrifying and bloody organisation that is all over newspapers and TV channels - Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

CremeEggThief · 08/04/2016 21:52
Hmm
GC79 · 08/04/2016 21:52

Well exactly, prior to the last couple of years I imagine it had been used as a name. I wondered if anybody has used the name recently as I couldn't find an updated link. (It was mentioned as a name in a previous thread which made me think).

This speaknowords - that's what I was looking for but couldn't find.

I know a fabulous little girl called Isis.

I guess its a bit unfortunate now

Palomb · 08/04/2016 21:54

There are loads of things in Oxford named Isis after the river. Lots of businesses have changed their names recently.

It's a shame really as Isis is a really pretty and interesting historic name.

spankhurst · 08/04/2016 21:57

I heard a radio prog a couple of years ago about women and girls called Isis and how sad they were that their name had basically become a disgust-inducing sound.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 08/04/2016 22:03

Apparently there was a dog called Isis on a TV programme.
Poor thing got killed off in the script.

Palomb · 08/04/2016 22:08

That was Downtob Abbey. I think the dog died of old age Confused

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 08/04/2016 22:11

I thought they said it died of old age to write it out of the programme.

Sunnybitch · 08/04/2016 22:12

Why do you want to know how many children were called it Hmm

GC79 · 08/04/2016 22:16

I suppose I just wondered if anyone would still use it given the current connotation.

I should hope not.

jeremyisahunt · 08/04/2016 22:19

Izzy is quite cute and could be short for 'isis'

fuzzyllama · 08/04/2016 22:20

I know of a party rep type person with a daughter called Isis. She told us she gets regular abuse from people and hate mail. Would definitely not be my choice of names right now, despite its meaning as a name.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2016 22:22

I wanted to call DD Isis (she is 4) but DH vetoed. He's a lot more politically on the pulse than me. I'm glad he vetoed.

FuzzyOwl · 08/04/2016 22:22

Chardonnay in Downton Abbey, Isis was around between 1916ish to 1924. Even by today's standards, that is a reasonable life expectancy for a Labrador. She died of old age and was very rarely refered to in the show by her name anyway as she was more of a background character.

vichill · 08/04/2016 22:24

Its a beautiful name but forever tainted. Iris is just as pretty.

IslaSinga · 08/04/2016 22:37

A friend met a toddler Isis at a baby group recently.

mrsmeerkat · 08/04/2016 22:40

I don't think is id appropriate at the moment op. No.

Iris
Elise

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 08/04/2016 22:46

It's nice sounding and if it wasn't the name of a terrorist group id be saying. "Yes definitely, it's lovely, but with what's going on. I think it could cause your little one problems and people would certainly pull a cats bum at the name.
Other suggestions.
Iris.
Isla

Irena (i-ray-na)
Isobelle

DS2 would have been Isis if he had been a girl. I'm so glad he's a he.
