I'm due a daughter soon. I'm looking for something a bit unusual, but still pretty sounding.

I came across the name Meadow - what do you think?

My friend's dd is called Meadow. I love it. It's a great name. As pp have already said, it was Tony Soprano's dd's name.

NoCapes · 28/03/2016 20:51

Meteor is amazing Meg truly amazing Grin arf!

Salene · 28/03/2016 20:54

No poor kid 🙈

TheRightThingToDo · 28/03/2016 20:59

I think it's a gorgeous name

AngelBlue12 · 28/03/2016 21:02

My friend just named her baby Meadow.

Comingfoccacia · 28/03/2016 21:12

Just hope she doesn't hook up wirth a Shaun!

Bellyrub1980 · 28/03/2016 21:16

I also really like clover.

I like all nature names and I'm not a hippy or a farmer or anything. Although I grew up (and still live in) rural Somerset so maybe that's why.

I really like all flower names. And some bird names!

If you and the dad agree on Meadow just go for it. Me and my DP only ever agreed on ONE name! (Which was Madeline and widely disliked on this forum due to the connection to McCann and our choice to use the English version of spelling the name ... we still love it and it suits her perfectly)

Aranan · 28/03/2016 21:31

If you are an artsy hippy type, I think Meadow could be lovely.

However if you are not, I'm afraid a lot of people with think it's chavtastic. However horrible it is to describe names as such. Depends how bothered you are about that I guess.

mrsschu · 29/03/2016 20:40

Meadow Soprano.

It's very silly IMO, what adult is going to want to be called Meadow? A small girl can maybe pass it off but I can't see how it would suit a 30 year old woman. To be honest lots of these "newer" nature names are pretty silly - Willow, Fern, Wren, Bluebell etc. But that's just my opinion.

SoThatHappened · 29/03/2016 20:42

Do you watch Orange is the New Black?

One of the female inmates is a dirty hippy, doesnt wash, and lived in a tree for a 8 months in one protest. Her best friend, who she keeps mentioning, is named Meadow and is another new age / hippy type.

That is all it reminds me of.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 29/03/2016 20:54

Love it. Can't use any nature names due to stupid surname being an animal. So any nature name sounds like something out of a cowboys and Indians film.

Bellyrub1980 · 29/03/2016 21:09

I'd be happy to be called Meadow and I'm a mid thirties health care professional!

perrita · 29/03/2016 21:15

Meadow is a lovely name

GirlOverboard · 29/03/2016 22:57

Paul Walker's daughter is called Meadow. I think it's a really pretty name.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/03/2016 01:17

I think it's lovely.

I know two meadows one is only 3 and really rather loud and fierce the other is in her 50's and one of the most respected professionals in her perticular industry I have ever come across she is awe inspiringly talented.

In RL her name has little impact on the perception of professionalism what with the fact that most grown ups are not actually arseholes.

Katarzyna79 · 30/03/2016 01:33

its unsual not in a funny way, but expect lots of confused looks.

to be honest it reminds me of fabric softener "meadow fresh"

Katarzyna79 · 30/03/2016 01:34

meadow isn't strsange if you consider savannah and delta. I actually like those names.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 30/03/2016 02:08

It's a lovely name.

For a field.

This As a word, I think it sounds quite nice. But bear in mind what she will think of it when she is grown up and wanting to be taken seriously in her field (sorry). Made me laugh! Do you really want to put her through a lifetime of that sort of thing though?

Oh & I'm equally Hmm about Skye/Rainbow/Autumn/Apple etc

You're pregnant, you've an excuse when your hormones are zooming around, but ...no, just no.

if you want strong & pretty go for something like Elodie.

madwomanbackintheattic · 30/03/2016 03:12

No one bats an eyelid at Meadow here. The first one I can think of has a brother called Ocean. It's fairly ordinary. I am boggled where some of you live that a name like Meadow can elicit such derision. It's not Mikayla.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 30/03/2016 03:34

I love it. It's soft and gentle sounding and sweet.

It's lovely, all the best op

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 30/03/2016 04:21

It's not one I've considered before but my first reaction is that it's absolutely lovely. I disagree with whoever said it was chavtastic, I think it would sit very well on one of those plummy middle class girls with great teeth and swishy blonde hair.

julfin · 30/03/2016 09:49

Coming from someone who is often accused of being posh I don't think it's chavvy. It's nice - it calls to mind pretty imagery. Not too hippyish either. I don't like the nn Meads though, personally - sorry. But I think Meadow is one of those names that wouldn't necessarily get shortened...?

I also like Meredith and Melody.

Having said that, go with your own instincts!

FarrowandBallAche · 30/03/2016 09:52

Chavvy is as chavvy does.

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 30/03/2016 14:50

Oh I missed the bit about using the nn her Meads, that's awful!

Primaryteach87 · 30/03/2016 15:01

I love it. It'll be a love or hate sort of name. If you love it and your family are polite or you have thick skin - go for it.
