I'm due a daughter soon. I'm looking for something a bit unusual, but still pretty sounding.

I came across the name Meadow - what do you think?

I taught a Meadow who was a lovely girl if it helps!

Duckdeamon · 28/03/2016 18:40

Hippy name, like Summer etc.

Maudd · 28/03/2016 18:40

Why shouldn't it be a name? It's a lovely word from nature after all. A few years ago Willow would have been considered seriously out there, but now it's pretty mainstream. And someone must have been the first Heather or Rose etc.

SoonToBeAMummyToADD · 28/03/2016 18:42

I just adore nature names so much!

Chavtastic.

juneau · 28/03/2016 18:45

A meadow is a field, not a girls name. You really want to call your DD 'field' with wild flowers in it? Pick an actual name FGS.

SoonToBeAMummyToADD · 28/03/2016 18:45

I wouldn't say it was a 'chav name' at all... I hate names being labelled as a 'chav name' anyway...

I really like it

MrsS1990 · 28/03/2016 18:47

Beautiful on a pretty little dainty girl.

Not so cute on a McDonald's loving overweight teen.....

SoonToBeAMummyToADD · 28/03/2016 18:47

I don't know why people are actually showing anger, jeez.

It isn't any different to Willow/Rose/Fern/Summer/Sky, etc.

Sophronia · 28/03/2016 18:50

I think it would be better as a middle name.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 28/03/2016 18:50

I wouldn't choose it personally, but it is no worse than many of the other names out there (e.g. I know girls called Autumn, Summer, Honey, Eden, Bluebell, Melody, Harmony, Devon, etc).

My favourite 'nature' name is Juniper - any good to you OP?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 28/03/2016 18:53

It's not about whether or not faceless Strangers on line like. It's your baby.
With names. Pleasing some of the people, some of the time is easy, but pleasing all of the people all of the time is a lot harder

ccsays · 28/03/2016 19:03

Not a huge fan myself, but it's not terrible.

How about Melody? Still pretty and unusual but sounds like more of an actual name?

Quercus3 · 28/03/2016 19:08

I love it, pretty looking and sounding. Meadows are wonderful places full of life

IoraRua · 28/03/2016 19:08

It's nice enough, much better than some of the names MN fawns over. Bit hippyish, yeah, but so what.

BoboBunnyH0p · 28/03/2016 19:17

There was a Meadow in my DD class, she is now 9. I was a bit Hmm at first but she was a lovely girl. If you like it use it.

iyamehooru · 28/03/2016 19:18

I think it's awful along with summer, Autumn and those kind of names but each to their own. I'm in the camp of if you have to ask a bunch of strangers you're doubting yourself anyway.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/03/2016 19:18

I like it Smile

Madbengalmum · 28/03/2016 19:21

Makes me think of the Sopranos!

Voteforpedr0 · 28/03/2016 19:26

Much prefer Prairie

StDogolphin · 28/03/2016 19:26

How about:

Lark

Sorrel

January

Faunia

Merryn

nectarini1983 · 28/03/2016 19:26

Quite like it actually. .. not a name I've heard before x

GreenLounger · 28/03/2016 19:26

Melody was a lovely suggestion - you then get the NN Mel

Bellyrub1980 · 28/03/2016 19:28

I REALLY like it. It's pretty but solid.

I'd reinforce it up with a more 'traditional' middle name (Lucy, Emma, Alice etc depending on your surname).

Lots of names are taken directly from nature.
