I'm due a daughter soon. I'm looking for something a bit unusual, but still pretty sounding.

I came across the name Meadow - what do you think?

OP posts:

Lovely but I'd use it as a middle name.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 28/03/2016 19:31

I love nature names, but Meadow doesn't feel like a human name to me. Does anything along the lines of Megan, Willow, Primrose appeal?

gatewalker · 28/03/2016 19:31

OP:

Do you love it? Does it make you feel good? (Aside from some of the comments here, that is.)

If it does, then go for it.

Really - no matter how suitable or popular a name is, there will always be detractors. That tells you nothing about your feelings or the name's suitability for your daughter.

FarrowandBallAche · 28/03/2016 19:32

I know a Meadow. It suits her Smile

Wafflenose · 28/03/2016 19:42

It's definitely a name, and I quite like it. I know, who also has a nature-y surname, which I think is a bit much. But with most surnames it would probably work fine.

Wafflenose · 28/03/2016 19:43

That should have said I know one!

HerRoyalNotness · 28/03/2016 19:47

My mn is Leigh which means meadow, I'd much prefer to have meadow as my mn.

It has a lovely sound to it.

Scarydinosaurs · 28/03/2016 19:48

As a nature name fan I quite like it, but I'm the poster who was ridiculed for liking Clover 😂 I didn't win that one, but I think you should use Meadow!

FurryDogMother · 28/03/2016 19:50

I like Meadow - go for it!

eastwest · 28/03/2016 19:50

I think it's very pretty. And I wouldn't be concerned about when she's in a professional job... she can be Dr M SoonTo , or it will just look like one of those surnames as first names things. worst case scenario, people will think she is American Grin

ummlilia · 28/03/2016 19:51

not keen, but purely because there's a council estate called Meadow View where I live (nothing wrong with estates per se; I live on one myself)

NoCapes · 28/03/2016 19:53

I know 3 sisters (aged 5,3 & a baby) called - Meadow, Autumn & Rainbow

I shit you not!

However I do like Summer, and a PP's suggestion of Melody, Elodie is also lovely

AgentCooper · 28/03/2016 19:55

I love it, but then I really loved The Sopranos Smile

You can have my recipes for baked ziti and brashool if interested.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 28/03/2016 19:56

I love it.
My friend's daughter is Meadow. They are huge Sopranos fans, though.

InformalMother · 28/03/2016 19:59

I really like it OP.

If you went by MN then every girl would be those awful granny-chic-try-hard names.

CheeseAndOnionWalkers · 28/03/2016 20:04

I wouldn't use it if your surname is Green or with a colour based name eg Amber Meadow but I like it.
Other nature names I like are Summer, April, Autumn, Skye, Heather, Amber, Fern... (Mae/May is overused though ) the word makes me think of Laura in the intro of Little House on the prairie.

As for Meadow not being a professional name - if Condaleeza Rice can make it any other name can. (It looks like a made up spelling which is number one sin in MN land.)

The current generation of children are used to a much wider variety of names than we are so what we consider "unprofessional" now won't be when they are adults.

chickindude · 28/03/2016 20:06

Meadow fresh is the fragrance of my fabric conditioner

Ifiwasabadger · 28/03/2016 20:25

Don't like it, sorry.

badg3r · 28/03/2016 20:32

Not a fan. I do like Willow, and months/seasons as names though.

IHeartKingThistle · 28/03/2016 20:33

It's absolutely gorgeous.

But then I think I may have been the lone voice of support on scarydinosaur's Clover thread!

hollyisalovelyname · 28/03/2016 20:40

No.

SoftSheen · 28/03/2016 20:41

Usually I prefer traditional names but I actually quite like Meadow. It sounds both soft and strong.

GreenLounger · 28/03/2016 20:41

Holly is a nature name

megletthesecond · 28/03/2016 20:47

I know a baby Meadow and it's a cure name.

nocapes many years ago now I had a batty pregnant moment and considered Rainbow for a girl and Meteor for a boy. XP did spend a lot of time with a Hmm face when I was coming up with names.

megletthesecond · 28/03/2016 20:48

cute not cure.
