I have a friend who is an Elliette. It sounds much more feminine to me.

hazelnutlatte · 15/03/2016 14:05

There is an Elliot Rose in a baby group I go to - I think Elliot is starting to become known as a unisex name now so I wouldn't worry too much about people assuming she is a boy.
I don't really like it with the extra 'e' on the end though as it seems unnecessary!

JanetOfTheApes · 15/03/2016 14:07

but they're traditionally for boys and so I would spell them different

Please don't. If you want to use a traditionally boys name, do that. But don't make up your own spellings, its the worst thing you can do. It always looks awful. And you're not the one that will have a lifetime of nobody being able to spell your name!

PotteringAlong · 15/03/2016 14:09

Quirky = made up.
If you want to call her Elliot that's one thing but please don't call her Elliotte.

BabyGirl12345 · 15/03/2016 14:09

Well, I like Finley, but was thinking Finnleigh or something? I'm not sure, it's just, for a girl I picture a 'prettier' spelling Confused

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 15/03/2016 14:10

Finnleigh is worse. Sorry.

BabyGirl12345 · 15/03/2016 14:11

I'd go for Elliott though, if I couldn't use Elliotte - Elliot feels like a surname (Billy Elliot)

juniperdingleberries · 15/03/2016 14:11

I like Elliette!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 15/03/2016 14:12

Why do you need to spell it differently for a girl, I don't understand that.

squoosh · 15/03/2016 14:12

Step away from Finnleigh! It looks like the name of a Scottish harbour.

If you're set on a boys' name for your daughter just go with the traditional spelling of whichever name you choose. It would just be doubly annoying for her to have a name that isn't spelt as people might expect as well as not belonging to a boy as people might expect.

JanetOfTheApes · 15/03/2016 14:13

Finnleigh is awful. It looks like you made it up (which you did!). Names already have spellings, changing them at whim is usually a very bad idea.

QueenElizardbeth · 15/03/2016 14:14

No, it's not good. Sorry. The emphasis would be on the 'Otte' part, it sounds wrong.

How about turning it round and going for Ottilie? That's French and very nice.

QueenElizardbeth · 15/03/2016 14:14

Or Juliette?

BabyGirl12345 · 15/03/2016 14:14

Not sure, I just picture the name differently for a girl Confused I'm not set on a boys name, I just can't find one I like that isn't! Well, I like Kiera... But not sure it goes with surname

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/03/2016 14:15

I think it's awful. It looks really strange too.

Elliott is too masculine

there is a reason for that...

Floggingmolly · 15/03/2016 14:15

Why are you determined to use a boys name, with a (you think!) "feminine" spelling? Most people won't have a clue how she spells it, they'll just know she has a name usually associated with boys and think it's a bit daft.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 15/03/2016 14:15

I've seen it spelled Eliette and like that better.

squoosh · 15/03/2016 14:16

Kiera is nice OP.

BabyGirl12345 · 15/03/2016 14:19

Last name is Carter though... Kiera Carter is a bit ConfusedSad

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 15/03/2016 14:20

Kiera Carter is absolutely fine. Smile

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 15/03/2016 14:21

Finnleigh is worse than toilet Elliotte in my opinion. There is no level on which this works as a girl's name imo.

A boy's name with a feminine spelling is just daft. Either pick a unisex name and spell it normally or just choose a girl's name you like. The feminine spelling is too try-hard and I cannot imagine that she will thank you for it in future.
