Twin name to go with Agnes

Dovinia · 14/03/2016 20:09

This is hypothetical at the moment, but I've come to a compromise with DH that if third baby is twin girls we will name one of them Agnes - his mum's name. I don't like the name Agnes but this is what we've agreed to.

Obviously ideally we won't have twin girls now, but if we do what names would go well?

My ex-mil's twin is called Agnes, she's Mina (short for Williamina).... No I didn't think that would appeal!

Martha!

BreconBeBuggered · 14/03/2016 22:02

I like the Sadie suggestions but I think you'd have to go with Jean.

Dovinia · 14/03/2016 22:12

I like Sadie too.

Not keen on Aggie as a shortening for Agnes, are there any other options?

Older kids are Alexander (Xander) and Edward (Ted).

CinderellaFant · 14/03/2016 22:29

Nessie is short for Agnes too

iyamehooru · 14/03/2016 22:29

Agnes , why agree to a name you don't like, she will hate you forever. Middle name maybe but first name....

SpidersFromMars · 14/03/2016 22:45

Isla. Agnes and isla.

Sophronia · 14/03/2016 22:46

What about the French/Spanish versions, Inez or Ines (can't do accents and not sure which is which despite it being on my list for a zillion years).

KolaKoola · 15/03/2016 07:58

Sorry but I think Agnes is a really ugly name...

I do know one Agnes with a sister called Beatrice, they go quite well, although poor Agnes did pull the short straw there I think.

lljkk · 15/03/2016 10:22

The Agnes I know is Aggie for short & it suits her... the other names I gave were also all Scottish, btw :).

But I agree Agnes is not so pretty. What about Audrey & Lauren? Wink

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 15/03/2016 21:57

This HAS to be joke! What loving parent would willingly give their lovely daughter a hideous name like Agnes? Don't believe it, sorry.

mathanxiety · 16/03/2016 05:07

I had a great aunt Agnes who was known as Ankie. I also knew an Agnes whose NN was Nessa (which is a bona fide Irish name).

Love Elspeth, Mary, Edith, Vera, Dinah, Jane and Ingrid, suggested by PPs^^.

I also love the suggestion of Ines or Inez.

How about
Agnes and Eva
Agnes and Frieda
Agnes and Greta
Agnes and Hannah
Agnes and Hazel
Agnes and Ursula
Agnes and Rosemary
Agnes and Winifred
