Corben or Arlo

These names are different to my children'e names, but me and DH just cannot agree on any boy names. He loves Magnus, while I don't hate it I think it is too strong for siblings Charlie and Tilly.

DH likes Norse and strong sounding names, so far the ones I didn't completely nix were Arlo and Corben.

opinions on these names please :)

I'm with your DH on this. Corben did make me think of Jeremy Corbyn, unless you pronounce the 'e' very definitely that's what people will hear I think.
Arlo is nice but very Stroud.

Arlo is much, much better than Corben.

I like Magnus. Yes it is "stonger" than Charlie and Tilly, I don't think it is too strong.

Are Charlie and Tilly their full names on their BC? If not, shouldn't you go for another name which could be longer, like Alfie or Billy?

I know a Corbin. He suits his name perfectly. So I have a biased opinion.

How about Max? Or Magnus with Max for short? I'm not keen on either Corbin or Arlo.

I really like Arlo, but I think it is old English for Charles? So you'd have 2 DS's with variations on Charles?

I'm Scandinavian so some names off the top of my head: Eirik, Henrik, Nickolai, Johan.

Where in the country are you OP? I'm in east London and Arlo just makes me think of someone from round here saying the name of a very shit new town on a line that runs out of Liverpool Street. I imagine anyone within travelling distance of Harlow will think the same thing and it's not a town you want to be associated with. As such I would go with Corbin as old Jezza is a better association.

Arlo is not 'old English for Charles'.
It was possibly based on an English version of a Gaelic-Irish place name, first used in a late 16th cent poem, which mentions 'Arlo Hill'. It is reminiscent of the modern place name Harlow, which means 'temple hill' or 'army hill' in Anglo-Saxon and is a not very nice new town.

Corbie is Scots for 'carrion crow'. The name Corbin or Corbyn (usual spellings, not with an 'e') is related, and comes from the French word for crow. It also means 'dark-haired', that is, with hair as dark as a crow.

Corben = Jeremy Corbyn at the moment. I would avoid it. In any case I don't like surnames as first names which I assume this is.

Arlo was on my list for DS for about 5 minutes before I decided it would date quickly. I do still like it though...

Is Benji Norse enough for your DH? That would go well with your other DC names.

I'm afraid j agree with all the Corben=Jeremy. I know it's not the same but it sounds the same.

RoseDawson - yes her FULL name is Tilly - picked for sentimental reasons, but I didn't ask for opinions on my children's names :).
