We go for OT names to please both camps (DH is Jewish; I'm Christian) but I struggled to find one I liked for DD1 and now DD2 is on the way I need help! Any suggestions? Unusualish is good.

Think the shortlist is
Aphra
Iscah
Vashti
Shifra
(Two with an -ah sound at the end!)
Any more in this vein? Thank you oh knowledgeable MNers

Aphra is a tremendous name!

VirginiaWoofs · 09/03/2016 13:55

Rachel
Keturah

ISeeIt · 09/03/2016 15:10

Thanks Quiet!
I know lots of Naomis. Likewise Rachel's and Sarahs. Can't do Ruth (because we've got a Boaz and that might be weird)

No apostrophe intended in Rachel's

Bethia
Zipporah

LarrytheCucumber · 09/03/2016 18:10

Beat me to it rally I was going to say Zipporah (Zippy for short).

originalmavis · 09/03/2016 18:14

Eden?

autumnboys · 09/03/2016 18:18

I like Aphra. Aphra Behn was the first woman to earn money writing plays (I think.....A level English was a long time ago now)

JanuaryJuniper · 09/03/2016 18:44

My dd is called Aphra, I love it more each day that goes by...so I vote Aphra!

Sophronia · 09/03/2016 18:50

Aphra is great. I like all the names on your shortlist.

ifigoup · 09/03/2016 18:52

Elisheva
Keren - from Kerenhappuch, a daughter of Job
Adah
Vashti

Sophronia · 09/03/2016 19:03

Some more suggestions...

Ephrath
Hadassah
Jael
Tirzah

ISeeIt · 09/03/2016 19:04

Yes I thought Aphra Behn a good namesake too. Adah's another -ah I like!

Keren - from Kerenhappuch, a daughter of Job yes another lovely name. Friends of ours have a Keren and she is a very strong woman (in a good way). Only thing is people often mistake it for Karen, or pronounce it Kairen.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/03/2016 20:04

Yes aphra Benn (sp?) is a great name-sake. Has dh not got any dead relatives he might want to honour?
I like Lydia, Leah, Rachel, Rebecca...

Bombaybunty · 09/03/2016 20:12

Damaris. Think it's Old Testament!

I love Hepsibah.

areyoubeingserviced · 17/03/2016 21:39

Love Naomi

dayslikethis · 17/03/2016 21:52

Not OT but a Hebrew name with a beautiful meaning which translates well to Christian faith -

Orli - it translates from the Hebrew as "Light for me" and is consideres to mean "light is mine" or "I have light"

dayslikethis · 17/03/2016 21:53

I love Adah too. That was on my list but DH vetoed it

Pippafisher · 17/03/2016 21:55

Naomi is beautiful and unusual today too. Also like Abigail, Esther and Jude.

dotdotdotmustdash · 17/03/2016 23:17

We have a Leah and a Hannah in our immediate family. Lovely names.

CordeliaFrost · 18/03/2016 13:37

Although not all Biblical, I think any Hebrew name is a good fit for a Jewish-Christian family.

Some suggestions:

Alitza/h (joy/happiness)
Amaris (whom G-d has promised)
Galiya (wave of G-d)
Kitra (crown)
Liora (my light)
Odelia (I will praise G-d)
Romia (lofty, exalted)
Ziva (brightness/brilliance)
