We go for OT names to please both camps (DH is Jewish; I'm Christian) but I struggled to find one I liked for DD1 and now DD2 is on the way I need help! Any suggestions? Unusualish is good.

Rachel?

Helenluvsrob · 08/03/2016 21:39

Outing self but I give you my godmother auntie thirza the most lovely lovely Yorkshire lady , purveyor of proper teas and feeder of teeny glasses of baileys to small girls !

Thirza . The name I couldn't have as dd1 had a th name already .

hollyisalovelyname · 08/03/2016 21:41

Abigail is lovely. It means father's joy.
Dorcas is unusual....though I knew one once. I thought it was an Irish name.

I know you don't like the 'ah' sound but my offering is
*Susanna

You're welcome!

Martha?

TheOldestCat · 08/03/2016 21:51

Abigail and Ruth are beautiful. I know a baby Esther too. Fab.

(Don't go for Sarah - zillions of us, so boring).

annandale · 08/03/2016 21:51

Tamar - has an ah sound but at least not the spelling.
Rachel may not be unusual but it's just a fantastic name.
Vashti...

I know an Amaris which is apparently hebrew though it was a christian family I know that used it. Other children all biblical too.

MissElizaBennett · 08/03/2016 22:40

Leah is also lovely.

Or you could go for Orpah - this was what Oprah Winfrey was meant to be called, but they misread/misspelled it or something :)

SanityClause · 08/03/2016 22:45

Dorcas is NT, I think. Wasn't she the grandmother of Timothy?

Littleallovertheshop · 08/03/2016 22:46

Mainly new testament Magnum. Esp Phoebe, she was a deacon in Timothy I think.

SanityClause · 08/03/2016 22:46

Again, Salome was the beautiful dancer who asked for the head of John the Baptist, so NT.

SanityClause · 08/03/2016 22:50

I know it's apocryphal, but how about Lilith?

FellOutOfBedTwice · 08/03/2016 22:50

Sadie! The Hebrew version of Sarah, beautiful name.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 08/03/2016 22:50

Ah, what do I know, I'm an atheist :)

Amaris is definitely Hebrew though.

Littleallovertheshop · 08/03/2016 23:00

Sorry,I mean Salome because of the relation to shalom rather than after a biblical woman.
