Thoughts on Noa for a girl?

We want to name our daughter Noa. It's a well known name in Israel, where we're from. But will she struggle with it in the UK? We'll we need to constantly explain it's not Noah, but Noa, and it's a girl's name?

It's pretty, but I wouldn't use it.

It's a pain to have to spell your name all the time, and the potential confusion about gender adds to that

OliviaStabler · 25/03/2016 05:43

I would not use it, in the UK that would be a boy's name Noah.

CountessOfStrathearn · 25/03/2016 09:24

Noa (or Noah) is definitely a girl's name too.

In the Bible, she is unusual because she and her sisters are able to get the inheritance from their father.

I love Noa for a girl

IkeaIsNeverCheap · 27/03/2016 21:09

I like outside the UK but in Europe so to me Noa is a girls name. I find it odd that a girls name is so popular as a boys name in the UK. Here it would be like calling your boy Sarah/Amelia/Something super popular.

Noa is a common girls name, along the lines of Sophia and very pretty so go for it.

thanks everyone! conflicting views but still helpful. Baby will arrive any day now. We are debating between Noa and Naomi. Which is prettier?

I quiet like Noa.

lostfortoys · 01/04/2016 17:18

Naomie will blend in more in England, and is a very lovely though rather rare name.
How about Naomie - nn Noa?

court26 · 02/04/2016 22:28

I like it I also like nova X

Lweji · 02/04/2016 22:29

Noa is my perfume. :)

Debsbabas2 · 30/07/2016 00:02

My daughter is Noa, I think it's a beautiful name and its good to educate people on the fact it is a girls name. 😊

LockedOutOfMN · 30/07/2016 00:12

I teach a lovely student called Noa (female). I think it's a beautiful name. In Spain it is relatively popular, as is Ainhoa, which I also like.

LockedOutOfMN · 30/07/2016 00:15

Prefer Noa to Naomi.

Motherfuckers · 30/07/2016 00:21

I have never actually met a Noah, but I know 2 little girls called Noa. I love the name.

smudgedlipstick · 30/07/2016 00:24

Noa is a beautiful name for a girl, cant see it being that much of a problem with the spelling, my name is a male and female name( mostly male) and I very often get, ' oh but that's a boys name!' It's not as annoying as you think. My dd's name is slightly unusual and always have to spell it but most names have so many different variations if spelling now that I wouldn't worry.

dontmakemedothis · 30/07/2016 00:27

I know a girl called Stevie. When she told me that was her name I was like "no way. show me your passport I don't believe you"... .She rolled her eyes so hard. Literally everyone she had ever met in her entire life had said the same thing.

I think she was pretty tired of it. I imagine a girl named Noa would be too.

Poppiesway · 30/07/2016 00:30

A friends just had a little girl named noa. Her dp is from Belgium, first time I'd heard a girl called noa.. I thought it was foreign Blush

CheeseFan · 30/07/2016 00:36

I think it's odd that people say you should not call her that because other people might be confused.

You should call her what you like and just correct people as necessary when they spell or pronounce it wrong.

I think it's a really lovely name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/07/2016 00:39

Noa is the Welsh spelling for Noah too, though it's debatable how old the spelling and usage is.

I like Noa/Noah for a girl/boy for what it's worth.

What did you go with in the end, op?

junebirthdaygirl · 30/07/2016 00:48

Know a little girl called Nao as in Nayo. I think whatever you want to call her go for it. What does it mean?

Kukoo · 30/07/2016 14:15

I really like it, but what about Noelle if you're worried?
