Thoughts on Noa for a girl?

We want to name our daughter Noa. It's a well known name in Israel, where we're from. But will she struggle with it in the UK? We'll we need to constantly explain it's not Noah, but Noa, and it's a girl's name?

I'd use it. Don't be put off by the fact it will need clarification for some people. It's a lovely name.

AveEldon · 05/03/2016 19:22

I know a little girl called Noa/Noah
Her name is better than her sibling's name which is a made up one

Ilovenannyplum · 05/03/2016 19:35

I think it's really pretty OP

WaitrosePigeon · 05/03/2016 19:43

There's a girl Noa and a boy Noah in my sons class. It's ridiculous to be honest.

Yika · 05/03/2016 19:46

I know a little Noa - she's Dutch - took me a while to get used to but now I love it. I think it's fine to use it in the UK.

mrsgumpy · 21/03/2016 08:15

Love it. If it is for a girl, do not spell it Noah.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 21/03/2016 08:23

I like it. Miles Cyrus' sister is called Noa (Grin don't know why I know that!)

pinkpeoniesplease · 21/03/2016 09:45

I know it as a girls name with that spelling OP so I think you'd be fine. I think it's a lovely name.

3luckystars · 21/03/2016 15:13

I think its lovely!

There is a perfume called Noa, by Cacharel, and that's lovely too!

Chloeisobelle21 · 21/03/2016 17:50

Noah is a boys name in the UK. I would be a little puzzled if someone introduced their DD to me as 'Noa'

derektheladyhamster · 21/03/2016 17:54

I know an 18 yr old Now. She is a lovely classy young lady, very bright and charismatic.

Go for it, once people have got used to it they won't bat an eyelid

derektheladyhamster · 21/03/2016 17:54

However autocorrect doesn't like Noa Shock

Raines100 · 21/03/2016 18:30

I have never heard of Noa as a girl's name, and tbh I would think it was odd, but I would soon get used to it. If I knew you were Israeli and saw the spelling, I would put two and two together. I certainly wouldn't let British ignorance put you off. Most of us are happy to learn, and the 'a' is a feminine ending, so it's easy enough to accept as a girl's name.

BackforGood · 21/03/2016 18:39

I agree with the first reply.
She would have to spend her life explaining "No, it's not Noah, it's Noa, and yes, I'm a girl, not a boy and this is a girls' name" if in the UK.

Blahia · 21/03/2016 18:47

Noa is beautiful. I've always known the name though, so I don't mistake it for the boys' name Noah -I think you should go for it if you love it, some people may find it strange at first, but most won't -and yes, she might have to spell it, but that's the way it is with many names nowadays and I for one love the diversity there is in names now :)

Sleepyandiknowit · 21/03/2016 20:08

Never heard of it but I absolutely love it x please use it xx

Heyheyheygoodbye · 21/03/2016 20:11

I absolutely love it.

Obs2016 · 21/03/2016 20:12

No.
Noah is a boys name in the UK.

FimbleBlizzard · 21/03/2016 21:54

It's a nice name. Like someone else said, it not being clear if it's the girl/boy name is no different to Frances/Francis or nicknames like Alex - hardly a dealbreaker. When it's written down it'll be clear anyway as the 'a' ending will help. People will quickly get used to it.

DramaAlpaca · 22/03/2016 00:06

It's weird - I like Noa for a girl but I hate Noah for a boy Confused

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 22/03/2016 05:57

Beautiful.

People may assume before they meet her that she'll be a guy but so what?

I did interviews recently and from the name on the CV I was expecting a male (it was an Indian name I've never heard of so no idea'why I had a feeling either way)

It turned out to be a Woman and that was that.

I don't get the problem with people presuming when they read ir she's male. Presumably anyone who meets her in person will know she's female

Yes, you (and then she) will regularly need to explain.

nectarini1983 · 24/03/2016 19:30

I like it! Noa spelling for a girl and Noah for a boy.
