Names my DP thinks are acceptable

My DP seems to like porn star nicknames instead of real names for a baby boy such as:

Buck
Rick
Ronnie
Chuck
Kurt
Clint

Surely he needs to be stopped?

They all should be on a list of riders taking part in a rodeo.

There must be a compromise name. He likes short and sharp names so.

Nicholas/Nick
Max
Luke
Finn

Do you know you are having a boy?

BathtimeFunkster · 04/03/2016 11:45

Rick is nice.

Kurt is a normal name too.

Bogburglar99 · 04/03/2016 11:47

Or compromise on the long version from which some of these are derived, and he can use the daft nickname as much as he likes until your DS is old enough to object

Eg Rick - nothing wrong with Richard
I think Chuck is originally an American nickname for Charles so how about Charles/Charlie
Ronnie short for Ronald on second thoughts don't go there

but the first two might give grounds for compromise?

Cynara · 04/03/2016 11:48

I feel your pain. When I was pregnant DP wanted Trent or Chad. I just have no idea where thoses ideas came from. I put my foot down, obviously.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 04/03/2016 11:48

Kurt's quite nice. But 'porn star nicknames' did make me Grin

Fifi10 · 04/03/2016 11:55

We are 90% sure it is a boy, and I've had the girls name sorted for ages. I stupidly thought it would be a nice gesture to let him pick boys names as it is potentially the first male grandchild on both sides etc etc.

I'm more upset as these are all names from TV shows and films- eg Rick (Walking Dead), Kurt (Russell), Clint (Eastwood).

What the hell is Buck even short for?? It's the one he is has been insisting on from the start, the rest came out as I insisted he widen the field. I just think Buck Naked when I hear Buck!

Grin @ Buck. I suppose you can get used to any name but I can imagine peoples faces when you introduce precious newborn as Buck Confused Confused

FlysInDreams · 04/03/2016 12:02

Buck Rogers? Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 04/03/2016 12:04

Uncle Buck

ScrambledSmegs · 04/03/2016 12:06

The John Candy movie, sorry if that ^^ was a bit confusing.

Casmama · 04/03/2016 12:07

Maybe he could pick the middle name instead 😂

alltouchedout · 04/03/2016 12:09

Chuck and Buck are the only ones on the list that really make me wince. I mean, none of the others are my faves, but they aren't utterly dreadful.

Would he be open to using a long version of some of those- ie Richard not
Rick, Curtis rather than Kurt, etc?

DH wanted to call DS2 Ramirez. Ramirez. We are British and Polish, no Spanish ancestry whatsoever, and afaik Ramirez is a bloody surname anyway.

Bogburglar99 · 04/03/2016 12:10

Cautious googling of the origins of Buck says it is from the word for a male deer - but also does reference an actual porn star, name of Buck Angel. This came up on the wiki entry so not an obscure association.

Is there another B name you could use and if DH is determined he can have it as a contrived nickname? Bradley? Benjamin?

Fifi10 · 04/03/2016 12:11

scrambled that is actually where he got the name Buck came from. This is why I could die of shame.

Might as well go through the last few on the list: Chuck (Norris), Ronnie (Captain Ron as played by Kurt Russell).

I mean I know my DP is a funny twat guy, but wishing your 80s/90s movie collection onto a baby for the rest of their life is just cruel.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/03/2016 12:17

Curtis is nice, shortened to Kurt?

No comment on the rest 😁

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/03/2016 12:19

He's not a Fargo (1996) fan or I guess he'd have mentioned Jerry, Norm, Wade or Shep by now!

If he just wants a nickname expect he might also go for The Dude (1998 The Big Lebowski).

Fifi10 · 04/03/2016 12:30

Donkeys No, he's not cultured. Think the first film we watched together was Dumb and Dumber, luckily Harry and Lloyd didn't make the list.

My DH wanted Sage or River ( also a boy) I've taken charge and we have a more 'normal' name in place now that we both like but that's mainly my choice....I feel my child will be very grateful for me stepping in one day when I can tell him his fathers suggestionsGrin..I have however let him have free reign on the middle name to I see that as a fair compromise...put your foot down as your child will be stuck with their name forever Wink

ispymincepie · 04/03/2016 13:04

My dh suggested Aslan!

GoldPlatedBacon · 04/03/2016 13:39

Has he suggested Johnny Utah yet?

juniperdingleberries · 04/03/2016 13:48

I loved the name Ronnie when I was pregnant... blame hormones

DP liked Gerard...

GastonsPomPomWrath · 04/03/2016 13:51

Someone I know (not well admittedly) just called their little boy Ronnie.

If it's any consolation dh wanted Troy or Maverick if last dc had been a boy.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 04/03/2016 13:55

Who says it's just women who can lose their minds* when pregnant 😂😂😂

*I did actually lose mine for a while last time but I never came up with flipping Clint for the baby Hmm Grin

Lightbulbon · 04/03/2016 14:03

Is he American?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/03/2016 14:23

I know someone who was very keen on Buzz. His DW was less convinced (understatement).
