I have a baby boy and older son, but it's my mum's middle name and wondered if it was usable for a future DD

I love it!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/02/2016 19:52

Sorry. I think it's a horrible name. However any name is usable unless it's something like Teresa Green or Hazel Nutt.

thebiscuitindustry · 26/02/2016 19:55

I like it and think it's due a comeback.

FoolsAndJesters · 26/02/2016 19:58

I think it's lovely and due a comeback. I used to know a lovely Alison.

I wonder if ILiveInALighthouse knew a horrible Alison. Wink

Vixxfacee · 26/02/2016 19:59

Really bad.

Gracey79 · 26/02/2016 20:01

Not keen much prefer alice

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/02/2016 20:03

Ha ha. Ive only known 2 Alisons. One was lovely, The other was very surley, and unapproachable

Jemimapuddleduk · 26/02/2016 20:03

I really like it. Have only ever met lovely Alison's.

Loqo · 26/02/2016 20:05

Alice is a lovely name but its sooooo so popular. Alison is a bit unusual and just as pretty.

goshhhhhh · 26/02/2016 20:07

Prefer AAlison to Alice.

wonderpants · 26/02/2016 20:14

I quite like Allyson, despite not unusually liking unusual spellings!
But Alison also nice!

DramaAlpaca · 26/02/2016 20:31

I've heard of three baby Alisons in the past few months, so in our part of Ireland at least it's having a bit of a revival.

I love that it's such an old name, it's in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales but with a slightly different spelling.

Sophronia · 26/02/2016 22:20

I like it and agree it should make a comeback

ScarletForYa · 26/02/2016 22:24

Alice is much better.

Finallyonboard · 26/02/2016 22:26

What about Alice?

Mclaren37 · 26/02/2016 22:31

Dislike it sorry. Very dated. Alice is still a nice tribute?

Xmasbaby11 · 26/02/2016 22:35

It's quite dated to me. I prefer

Alice
Alicia

I wanted Alicia for dd but Dh vetoed!

Meeep · 26/02/2016 22:35

I like it!

JudgeJudySheindlin · 26/02/2016 22:36

Alison was an extremely popular name when I was growing up. Never liked it, but now I think it's really pretty. It is certainly not like some of the other names from the 60s & 70s I would hate to see return.Shock

DancingDinosaur · 26/02/2016 22:37

I like it. I didn't when I was growing up as it was quite a common name. But I've met some really nice Alisons recently and its drawn me to the name.

Swollenankles83 · 26/02/2016 23:02

I find it a bit frumpy - sorry OP

JadziaSnax · 26/02/2016 23:14

I'm biased - it's my name. The name has dated a bit and has a bit of a 70s / 80s feel about it.

I'd be delighted to meet a baby Alison though :)

ILoveACornishPasty · 26/02/2016 23:32

My mum is Alison but everyone calls her Ali anyway. I like it X

TrappedInAWitchesCurse · 26/02/2016 23:34

I agree it's dated. Would use as a middle name if after a family member but not as a first name.

manicinsomniac · 26/02/2016 23:49

I'm not keen but most of the Alisons I know are generally called Ali which I really like.
