I have a baby boy and older son, but it's my mum's middle name and wondered if it was usable for a future DD

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's my name and I've always disliked it

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 26/02/2016 23:59

Haha! It's my name too. Always loved it. Most people call me Ali although some people stick to Alison, including Dh. However, I think it is dated now and much prefer Alice.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 27/02/2016 00:00

Oh and I agree that the majority of Alison's are lovely Wink

NadiaWadia · 27/02/2016 00:12

I think it's a really nice name (although I do love Alice). Makes me think of the classic Elvis Costello song. All those people saying 'dated' -consider that just a few years ago the names Arthur, Alfie, George, Edith, Violet, Lily, etc were considered OAP names and a bit of a joke, but now primary schools are full of them.

Maybe it's time for 'Alison' to come around again? It's much nicer than some of those mentioned above, IMO.

Alison is a nice name. Will get Ali as a nickname which is one of my closest friend's name so I love it.
Have only taught 3 in 16 years so not popular. Some great Alisons too - Steadman, Moyet, Krauss ...

Alicia is one of those names that gets pronounced in lots of different ways - alliss -E-a. Alees-E-a or alleesh-a

I think due a comeback. Call her Alison and then nn Alice if you/she feels it's prettier or more age appropriate while she's little

Secretlove · 27/02/2016 07:43

Too 70s.

crapfatbanana · 27/02/2016 07:47

It's a decent name. Out of fashion, but all the more reason to use it imho.

Gummibearchen · 27/02/2016 07:52

Lovely name! Classic and underused these days.

Why are so many keen to use an already fashionable name? Much better to try and find a beautiful underused, unfashionable name!

Ratatattat · 27/02/2016 07:54

It's ok. It will become popular again at some point but you may be ahead of the curve.

Becca1818 · 27/02/2016 08:00

What about allie as a nn
