Opinions on These Girls Names Please?

Am only 17 weeks so have a while to go but I like to be prepared Nothing is really grabbing me and DP isn't enamoured by any of them though hasn't come up with any decent suggestions of his own.

Opinions please - no matter how blunt or brutal Alternative suggestions also welcome - thanks :)

Connie - bit bland?
Romy - bit blunt?
Merryn
Megan - too popular?

Maeve - bit bland?
Mabel - bit frumpy?
Florence - nn Florri (DP doesn't like)

Names that we've ruled out for various reasons:
Elsie - DP thinks it sounds like a dogs name. Crazy man.
Elodie - could be shortened to Ellie which I really don't like.
Adelaine/Adeline/Aveline - not sure
Blossom - DP thinks it's a horses name.
Clementine - like but DP hates
Arrietty - love but DP hates
Poppy - friend has named her DD that
Beatrice/Beatrix - DP doesn't like
Liberty - could be shortened to Libby which I don't like.

Roma, Rosa and Seren are my faves.

Don't like Mabel or Bonnie.

Yeah, I can't really visualise having a daughter called Mabel or Bonnie. Names I like if other people called their DD that but not for my own!

I'm not keen on Serena. Like Caris but have a family member called Cerys and it's too similar.

Merryn is the name I keep going back to but do you think it sounds too much like Miriam. I don't want it to have another family member called Miriam and don't want to cause confusion or for them to think the baby is name after them!

Romy - bit blunt? Never heard this name. Prefer Romilly.
Merryn - Very nice. Also like Meredith, Maren and Mirren.
Megan - too popular? - bit dated, but still lovely.
Edie - too popular? Yes
Maeve - bit bland? Depends on the child. Could be very cool.
Mabel - bit frumpy? Same as Maeve - could be very cool. Also like Maude.
Florence - nn Florri (DP doesn't like) Pretty but safe.
Esme - pn issues
Cora - Okay, a bit plain for me. Coralie? Corrinne?
Bonnie - cute but for under 5s only? On the fence with this.
Rosa Beautiful but safe
Joni/Joanie Cute, funky. Johanna, Jane, Jenna, Joely?
Seren Love this.
Freya Bit dull
Thea Prefer longer version - Anthea, Althea, Dorothea, Theadora...

I live Mirren but it's far too similar to Miriam which is MILs name so a no-no! Went to school with a Romilly and it's put me off the name ever since. Think Romy probably just sounds like a nickname of Romilly though in hindsight so that's struck off the list now I think.

Merryn seems popular - do you all think it sounds too similar to DP's mum's name?

Connie (also like Constance), Maeve/Meabh/Medbh, Thea or Cora. Or Mabel, actually, which is cool in a retro-1930s dowager kind of way.

Joni remains far too Joni Mitchell for me, Bonnie will remain the cutesy pre-schooler in the Toy Story films, and lots of the others are so overused around here you might as well call your daughter 'Girl'.

How about Arletty (with an L - French) instead of Arietty?

Am really keen to avoid overused names. I don't really know many young children so am not really sure what's popular/overused in nurseries/playgroups etc at the mo other than referring to top 100 lists which a lot of those names aren't on (with the exception of Florence)

Love Arletty - never heard of it before. Just ran it past DP and he thinks people would say 'who do they think they are' if we named our DD that God, he's hard work when it comes to name choosing

Errr, sorry but of all those names only Seren and Freya get an ok from me. Really don't like any of the others.

Have been chanting Seren outloud to see how it 'feels' and whilst I like it there's something that I can't put my finger on that just doesn't feel quite right!

If I was having a boy it would be easy - Seth or Alby. I'm really struggling with girls namespace

Seren is lovely. I love Welsh girls names. If you like the sound of Megan but want to go more unusual, and don't live in Wales, maybe Bethan (it's quite common in Wales). I know a Mabel - very cute on her.
