Thoughts please on the name Anouk?

I like the sound, it'd be a tribute to an Ann relative, and we have a slight French connection. However I may be swamped by hormones at this point (due any day). Thoughts?

I recently met a little girl (6yo) with this name, I like it and the girl suited it.

I like it a lot! Main association is the very chic Anouk Aimee.

We're in the UK though & she'd have a non-French surname (which it suits, rhythmically). My only concern is that Anouk isn't yet an "international" French name & is it therefore a bit pretentious? Say, in a North London primary school...

Do you say it A-nook? As in a-nook-and-crannie? Is this only a Scottish thing.

No. Nook and crannie isn't only a Scottish thing.

Lovely name when pronouced properly! Sounds very grown-up, can't really imagine a little girl being called it ... but hey, even the ultra-elegant Anouk Aimee must have been a toddler once.

If she'll be attending a North London primary her best friends will probably be Greta, Pamela and Ines.

I think I must have been thinking of Nanook too when I read it - I thought it sounded Scandinavian or even Inuit. Not French! Shows what I know.

I watched Chocolat the other day and thought to myself that I liked the name. It wouldn't go with our surname so I think it depends how you think it sounds with yours?

Have you considered Annick? Also has the Ann- thing, also French, but perhaps translates better to English vowel sounds?

A colleague of mine in France was called this and I always thought it was a lovely name.

I live in France too & my closest French friends DD2 is called Anouk. I know of two others too. I think it's lovely. Not too girly, but pretty, easy to pronounce but a bit different.
