What do you think of Nora? I love it but do you immediately think "old lady with wrinkled tights"?

Yes that's exactly what I think.

A family member was going to use it but thankfully didn't.

Cric · 21/01/2016 20:04

I love it.

Sunshine511 · 21/01/2016 20:05

Love it!! Didn't think about the wrinkled tights until you mentioned it! I had the singer Nora Jones in my head initially! Lol. I think it's a gorgeous name x

IoraRua · 21/01/2016 20:05

Yup, I do think that.
It seems to be generally in favour on here though!

DickDewy · 21/01/2016 20:05

Yes, a bit old lady to me, but maybe because I have a great aunt Nora (full name is Honoria, which is rather lovely).

ClaudiaWankleman · 21/01/2016 20:05

I think of a middle class 'special snowflake' who wears pinafores and won't sit still.

I think it has the capacity to be very popular.

Ham69 · 21/01/2016 20:07

No. Love it and think of Nora Jones more these days. Also love Dora and ignore the explorer connection!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 21/01/2016 20:08

I really love it but do think of the tights. I don't know if this is a generation thing though, by the time these babies grown up will it be forgotten? It's such a cool name!

BigEasy · 21/01/2016 20:09

I knew two girls called Nora, growing up in Ireland. Both were very beautiful looking, lovely people. I think Nell is similar, and a little more elegant.

EachandEveryone · 21/01/2016 20:12

I adore Nora but would like to know which celeb has this name as I have come accross three in the last two weeks. I can only think it's a kardashian thing as North is know as Norrie. Is that it do you think?

AndersArms · 21/01/2016 20:15

Thanks. Mixed reactions I guess.

I love it and so does DH which is a rare thing as we struggled to agree on names for DC1&2.

Just not sure I love it enough to counter the negative reaction. But I decided against the name I picked for DD1 because it was a bit marmite and while I like her actual name, a part of me wished I had cared less about what other people's reactions might be.

Oh no Each - that idea really puts me off!

Love it!!!! I would definitely use it. Norah like Norah Jones if you wanted to mix it up

Sunshine511 · 21/01/2016 20:21

The fact is, once your baby's born, people who know her will stop associating the name with the tights and associate the name with the cute little baby! I've had this experience myself when a friend of mine had a baby! The name reminded me of a stumpy old man with a great big moustache that was a neighbour of mine growing up! Now I think of the lovely little boy and my opinion on the name has totally changed :) x

Luciferbox · 21/01/2016 20:21

I like it.

Artandco · 21/01/2016 20:24

Love it. Would have used it 5 years ago had either of mine been girls.
Our girls name ( that we won't ever use now), was Nora Margot

It is a beautiful name, especially with an h - Norah.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/01/2016 21:07

Love it. But I'm a big fan of Nora Ephron.

Also love Honoria - think that looks more modern perhaps?

Doublebubblebubble · 21/01/2016 21:10

I like Norah - but Nora isn't for me. First thing I thought of was "last of the summer wine" and then I realised I like "last of the summer wine" lol go for it x

Leigh1980 · 21/01/2016 21:11

Bloody Nora I like it 😜

BrennieGirl · 21/01/2016 21:13

I love it. It was DH's grandmother's name. We were thinking of using it for DD2 but got some negative reaction as above. I wish I'd stuck to my guns. We used it as her second name and ended up giving her an equally wrinkly tights first name!

Girlfriend36 · 21/01/2016 21:15

It was my Nans name she was old and did have wrinkly tights Grin I put it in the same category as Doris which I don't think is due a come back yet!

badg3r · 21/01/2016 21:17

It's on my maybe list. But as an abbreviation of Eleanor so she could have Nell, Ellie, Ellen at a push too if she liked. Not even pg yet though!!

BeaufortBelle · 21/01/2016 21:19

Nora Batty
Nitty Nora

Please don't. The negative connotations are too close. Nora, just igNora
