Remy - for a girl?

cornwallsharon · 16/01/2016 19:23

So my husband keeps coming back to Remy but for a girl.

I'm not convinced - I worry it's a bit chavvy and also using a boy's name for a girl.

Unusual and pretty or weird and silly?

There's a pretty good female character called remy in the tv series house. I like it. Simple and androgynous but not common.

Roobix04 · 16/01/2016 19:25

Pretty. I wanted it for dd but dp wasn't a fan. It's the name of Olivia Wild's character in House I think.

Roobix04 · 16/01/2016 19:25

X post!

SuburbanRhonda · 16/01/2016 19:26

If he wants to name his DD a French boys' name, who is anyone to say no? Grin

Honoria · 16/01/2016 19:27

It's a boys name to me. How about Romy instead?

cornwallsharon · 16/01/2016 19:29

Ah yes, we were both big House MD fans so he keeps bringing her up! Grin

Like it!

Sorry but sounds like an indigestion tablet to me.

TaurielTest · 16/01/2016 21:16

Doesn't Ratatouille mean it's a reasonably well-known male name? I wouldn't.

Remy - for a girl?
janethegirl2 · 16/01/2016 21:18

Remy Martin is what I think of, ok but I love my brandy.

neolara · 16/01/2016 21:18

I know a girl Remy. I rather like it.

postitnotes · 16/01/2016 21:18

My friend has a 5 month old baby girl called Remy. I think they would have used it for a boy too.

Doje · 16/01/2016 21:20

Like it. Smile

ClashCityRocker · 16/01/2016 21:24

I don't like it, but that's purely because when I was at school it was an insult, short for remedial. people used to tell each other that they should be 'in the remmy form' if they did or said something stupid. I know the pronunciation is slightly different but still...

It also puts me in mind of the stereotypical french chefs.

Jesabel · 16/01/2016 21:25

I've met two little girls called Remy recently, I wondered if it came from TV.

squoosh · 16/01/2016 21:27

I like it.

TrinityForce · 16/01/2016 21:27

How do you pronounce it? Ree-my? Remmy?

squoosh · 16/01/2016 21:27

And I prefer it to MN fave Romy.

iciclewinter · 16/01/2016 21:29

Like Honoria I was also going to suggest Romy.

janethegirl2 · 16/01/2016 21:32

Don't like Remy or Romy at all!

ThatsHowYouGetAnts · 16/01/2016 21:37

I like it but think of it as a boys' name (was a teenage comic book enthusiast and there is a character in the X-Men called Remy).

lilone1234 · 16/01/2016 21:41

It wouldn't be my choice personally, but I've known girls with the name so its a girls name to me and not chavvy. Think it's nicer spelt Remi or Remmy (if that's how you're saying it) though.

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/01/2016 21:45

I think boys name too.

CormoranStrike · 16/01/2016 21:50

Romilly?

Coldtoeswarmheart · 16/01/2016 21:51

Wasn't Remy the male rat in Ratatouille?
