Hi, I really like the name Emily but am put off by how popular it is! Although I think it will go nice with my odd surname (Crumb).

Any other suggestions please? Struggling to find many girl names that I like!!

I've got an Emily. I chose it because I like it.

Why is it an issue if it's popular? I never get what people have against popular names.

nextusername · 11/01/2016 20:47

It's a lovely name, popular for this reason.

Believeitornot · 11/01/2016 20:48

Who cares if it is popular.

I don't. My dd is called Emily and I've not come across any others (she's 3)

Findingthisdifficult1234 · 11/01/2016 20:49

It's a lovely name!

pieceofpurplesky · 11/01/2016 20:49

The name Emily is beautiful. As are Alice, Olivia, Isobel. Beautiful even though popular.

SnuffleGruntSnorter · 11/01/2016 20:51

Really lovely name

FourForYouGlenCoco · 11/01/2016 20:53

Emily Crumb is a FANTASTIC name, she will sound like a detective in a novel! Absolutely love it. I think Emily is lovely (and spelled properly, hurray). Didn't think it was that popular actually - I know quite a few adult Emilys but no children. Go for it!

iwillbemrsminty · 11/01/2016 20:53

I have a cousin Emily. She gets Em for short. Lovely name, it's on my favourite girls names list Smile

Only1scoop · 11/01/2016 20:54

Very Vanilla

Not keen

FighterPilotsThumbs · 11/01/2016 20:55

I find it extremely boring.

ExitStageLeft · 11/01/2016 20:55

Not my cup of tea at all. Sits with Sophie in my mind. Just boring and non interesting. Sorry.

LadyRivers1 · 11/01/2016 20:55

That's my DD1s name, she's 9. To be fair I've not come across many Emily's her age but don't know how popular it is now!

Zeusette · 11/01/2016 20:56

What Exit said

redcaryellowcar · 11/01/2016 20:56

I like Emily and Emma, but had two boys, and dh says that's enough, so neither for me!

Soooosie · 11/01/2016 20:57

I only know one grown up Emily. Lovely name. Chic. I'd imagine an Emily to be a well behaved, warm child

magpie17 · 11/01/2016 20:57

Emily Crumb is a tremendous name!

It's very popular but then a lot of very good names are popular, I wouldn't choose it for this reason myself but if you love it go for it.

crumb04 · 11/01/2016 21:11

poster FourForYouGlenCoco & magpie17 - Thanks glad you agree, I think there is something lovely yet cool about Emily Crumb! Reminds me of Emily Blunt who is awesome!

I get the mixed views on here, it's great to learn what people think. Open to other suggestions too! :-) xx

It's lovely. It's popular because it's lovely.
I like Em and Millie for short too.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/01/2016 21:29

Emily Crumb. Great name. It's like something out of a story book.

stopitcaroline · 12/01/2016 07:46

I'm with the others: Emily Crumb is fantastic! It really does sound like some kind of really neat child character from a kid's book, maybe with some magical powers like Matilda Wormwood. Also, I just happen to love the name Emily. It's classic and pretty and soft.

Other names in the same vein as Emily: Anna, Grace, Isabel, Julia, Katherine, Clara.

ChessieFL · 12/01/2016 07:49

I have an Emily so I love it! It's always on the top ten lists but I've only ever come across a couple of other child Emily's - think there's only 1 or 2 others in DDs school of 200 kids! And it does go brilliantly with your surname!

Bluesand1 · 12/01/2016 08:41

Good solid name

mrsschu · 12/01/2016 08:44

It's pleasant but dull. The popularity thing wouldn't bother me too much as it's a classic name. I can see why you would want something not too outlandish with your surname and the names sound fine together. It's just a bit, well, dull.

maybebabybee · 12/01/2016 08:45

I think it's very dull but that's honestly a personal taste thing, it's a perfectly inoffensive name.

Roussette · 12/01/2016 09:03

Emily is a lovely name! Don't be put off by anyone saying it is dull. Why should names be outlandish and 'out there'? I think it is great with your surname.

My DCs have dull names probably but I'm glad they're not saddled with something ridiculous. They are now older and they love their first and second names.
