Boys name - similar to Noah or Oscar?

Really struggling to think of boys names. We have Edward as our first choice but I am only about 80% sure on it and we just can't agree on any others! I'm worried Edward is just too simple/plain but I don't want an out there or pretentious name either. I'd like a name that would get a "such a lovely name" response, something familiar but not necessarily a name that has always been a solidly popular/traditional name. I love Noah and Oscar but can't use them because of close family members with those names. Help!!

My friend's little boy is called Ethan. His brother is Ryan. Both normal but uncommon names for small boys.

How about Aaron, Felix, Hugh, Joel, Rufus, Simon or Wilfred?

Bluesand1 · 07/01/2016 23:33

Love Ethan

I like Ethan, and also Edward. Lots of potential nicknames with Edward, which you won't have with Ethan.

xmasseason · 08/01/2016 00:36

I like Edward and it's classic but no, not too plain. I'm not keen on the nicknames Ted/Teddy/Ed though.

I really like Ethan, and it's a bit more unusual but also a good solid name.

Stollenlover · 08/01/2016 15:10

Caspar is great, as is Reuben or how about Quentin or Elliot?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 08/01/2016 16:17

Ethan makes a change from Edward (especially with the nn Teddy) which has appeared to be very popular in the last few years.

It's tough when you mull over a name then almost tire of it before EDD. How disappointed would you be if in the next few weeks an acquaintance announces they're picking Edward?

I was going to suggest Samuel, (met a baby Sam the other day, so straightforward) or Finlay.

Jethro

I have a Noah and seem to have similar taste (jasper vetoed & love Ethan but doesn't go with our surname!) so I'm going to give you the only other boy name I love as much as Noah...Luca.

spaceyboo · 08/01/2016 16:42

I like: George, Henry/Harry, Alfred/Alfie, Arthur.

Isaac? I loved Toby for a boy but we had a girl. I went of all my favourite names but when she came she looked like one on our list so we picked thst.

Partner wasn't keen on Toby. I love it.
