Boys name - similar to Noah or Oscar?

Really struggling to think of boys names. We have Edward as our first choice but I am only about 80% sure on it and we just can't agree on any others! I'm worried Edward is just too simple/plain but I don't want an out there or pretentious name either. I'd like a name that would get a "such a lovely name" response, something familiar but not necessarily a name that has always been a solidly popular/traditional name. I love Noah and Oscar but can't use them because of close family members with those names. Help!!

Ethan is v popular - and I think in the us it may be in the top ten, so I'm not sure why it is being considered unusual!

Both my boys have names suggested on here! I Was not allowed to use Amos, Idris or Ezra, all of which are unusual and would, I think, get an ' oh what a lovely name ' response'.

Thanks for all the responses! Some of the suggestions are names I do like but that OH has vetoed (he seems to be much more picky than me!). Luca and Billy in particular are lovely but also not allowed :( I'm pleased people seem to agree on Ethan. Yes not too familiar this side of the pond compared to the US then, but I think still in the top 100 so not exactly unusual, although I've never met anyone with that name funnily enough! I think Ethan and Arthur are our current 'reserve' names. I think we're getting there!

I love the name Ethan but I'm bias as my son is Ethan. It's great for all ages not just a child, think it's a strong mans name too!

Personally I'm not too keen on Edward as seems a bit dull. It is so hard we are trying to think of names and I'm finding it hard. Such an important decision.

I'm sure you'll find a great name that you both love!

We have an Edward who we call Teddy at home so I'm biased I love it Wink and it gets a lot of 'oh what a lovely name' although there are lots of Teddy's about now.

What about Sonny or Buddy?
Theodore
Luca
Benediction
Sebastian

We have nephew called Arthur or that would be on my list as love it!

I like Ethan but it is very popular here in the States. The Ethans I know well have brothers called Logan, Alex, Andrew...

Ezra is nice. I love Asa. Such a snappy little name.

Ezra, Solomon, or what about Tobias?

Funny that pp say Ethan is unusual - there are loads here and 2 in dd's (6) class! It's still a lovely name though

I was thinking the same - loads of Ethan's around here!

Afraid I do think Edward is a very 'safe' name and again, loads of them because of that.

What about Noel, Saul, Dominic?

I do think though if you like a name you should go for it no matter what others think!
