ok honest opinions, thinking of names i had never considered!

Could it be hormones? Not sure, not feeling particularly hormonal, but never considered these names for previous dds... Please tell me what you think?

Clarice

Jane

Names I previously considered are much more mainstream:

Rose
Emma
Claire

Silence of the lambs is one of my favourite films so that will not put meoff. Also it has family connotations.

I love Violet, wish DH would consider it!

I like them all. I know a little Flora, it's a cracking name.

Violet is definitely on the up, fitting with the vintage revival we've been enjoying. I like it but prefer Viola.

Clarice is a very grown up name, is it pronounced Clar-eece, or with a short I sound? Clarrie is a cute nn.

Clara is a nice alternative and I love Cerys too.

I've got a massive soft spot for Jane and think it deserves more use. It's so plain and low key it's fabulous.

Your other ideas are nice but don't inspire me.

I've never even seen SOTLs and yet it's the first thing I think of when I hear Clarice. So that will be the association.

I don't love Violet. DD goes to school with a gorgeous little 5YO Violet and if neither she nor Maggie Smith can get me on board, then I don't think I'm ever going to like it.

Flora is fine.

Jane is lovely. It's ripe for revival, and she will definitely be ahead of the curve/the only one in her class.

Violet is mainstream in the under 5s! I know 5 aged newborn to 4.

Flora, Violet and Jane are all lovely. I'm not so keen on Clarice: what about Clarissa?

Violet I would be worried she'd get called Vi.

Clarissa is nice but our one we know is called Rissa which I don't much like.

Violet is very much a mainstream revival, 'look how ahead of the curve we think we are' sort of name. You can definitely do better, I think.

I too prefer Clarissa to Clarice. Have not seen SOTL and didn't make the connection. Clarice Bean, yes, but I personally like Clarice Bean!

Flora is lovely. Violet also strikes me as mainstream trendy, although pretty. Jane - nice but a bit like Anne, surely, in so far as it is a bit plain?
If you like flowery names, what about Marguerite? Not sure if that is trendy, though. I liked Daisy about ten years ago but I think that became really popular

I think Jane is so plain your DD could be permanently jealous of every other girls name. I also think it comes across a little like trying to be first with the next name-group revival. Like all the others, and have seen Sotl lots of times but don't really think it matters - it's a good chara

Currently 20 weeks with DC2 and she will be Violet so I am biased! I cant stand trendy/popular/regular heard names so I wouldn't bE using it if I thought it was overly popular.

And I think I really like Clarice, never thought of it before.

Flora is pretty - also love Violet. 2015 name stats are in and its only 83 for 2015 so don't really believe comments about it being super trendy/every other little girl being called it really

Clarice - like, but does tend to make me think of 'Silence of the Lambs'

Thank you for all the feedback! I seem to have slightly gone off the name Clarice (not my dear old great aunt!) in the space of a day ( it only popped in to my head this morning) and anyway dh has said no.
Googled predictions for 2016 and in one list violet was number 7!

Due date in a month-ish so have a bit of time to whittle them down.

Might also suggest Juliet or Julia to dh.

Looks like Jane has divided opinion. Maybe it's very boring for us but actually might turn out to be unusual for this generation!!
