What does your child think is the most unusual name of their friends?

I asked my 15yo DS which of his similar aged friends has the most unusual name and his answer was Kimberly Grin.

I think he has some friends with very unusual names but when I suggested that maybe some of those were uncommon he replied well maybe but he had never heard of a Kimberly before. He then thought some more and suggested that Anna-Mai was a tad strange.

Maybe he is just pulling my leg Hmm

Marcello.

His first day at school, he came home and told me, "There's a big bot called Marcello!"

I don't think mine think that anyone they're at school with has an unusual name.

Two reasons:

a) 'they're not weird, they're my friends' and
b) early years in a very diverse area. When you've been to nursery with an Osiris, I doubt anything could ever seem odd.

Whatsername24 · 14/12/2015 20:45

Gary. You don't hear of many 15 year old Garys now do you?!

ThornyBird · 14/12/2015 20:46

Dc1 (14) says 'Zyra' (male)
Dc2 (12) says 'Bay' (male)
Dc3 (9) says 'Lucas' Hmm or 'Angel'
Dc4 (6) is in a class with a Rocco.

While we are waiting for dc2, dc1 has come up with siblings 'Tinkerbell, Sparkle and Saber' she met on scout camp.

DD, who is 14, said Geli (short for Angelica). They say it Jelly

DS1, who is 12, said Fen.

Saint. He's in Dd's school. I almost wept for the poor child on hearing the name of the new Kardashian baby.

The most unusual of DD1's (24) friends is Ruby-Tiger, and of DD2's (20) friends is Armani.

Whatsername I know a new baby Gary! I actually laughed when I read his name, just in sheer surprise!

NetballHoop · 14/12/2015 20:55

Xyla-Rae. But that was in primary school and we don't know her any more.

We know a boy called Augustia.

As he's got the most gorgeous long curls I was convinced he was a girl for the first 6 months we knew him Blush.

OSETmum · 14/12/2015 21:00

DS says Austin. To be fair there's not that many unusually names children in his school. Although there is a 11 year old Ian...

Whatsername24 · 14/12/2015 21:04

MrsBalustradeLanyard we laughed at this Gary's name too - DH said "How old is he? 40?"

MrsBalustradeLanyard · 14/12/2015 21:12

I also know a cat named Gary Grin

DD is only 6 and her school has a pretty wide range of names including many non-English names. She has never commented on any of them.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 14/12/2015 21:33

John and jemima for ds (11 &12)

Alan and Philip for dd (2) although she doesn't think they are unusual.

Tirfarthoin · 14/12/2015 21:38

6 yo DS has no opinion on names, I asked him but he was just nonplussed, there is a Rocco in his class too.

I have to admit that your DC seem to have a better grasp of unusual than mine. would love to meet a 15yo Gary just to reset my preconceptions Grin

I always laughed at my DDs views on names. Over the years, they came across all sorts of names - Ptolemy, Seraphina, Habiba, blossom and bliss all accepted and went without mention. However the name Faye was met with incredulity by my then 8 year old daughter. After all, just who would name their daughter Faye?? HmmSmileConfused

KERALA1 · 14/12/2015 22:15

Honestly none. We live in ultra conservative where names are concerned area. Actually dd2s name is probably the most racy in the class and it's really not.

Miss north London, there we came across an algernon, iggy and Camden. Here it's all eve, ben and isabel.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 14/12/2015 22:43

DS1 14 is at school with an Ocean, a Tiger, and an Ylandis.

DS2 10 has kids with more normal names in his year, however there is a Gary. Grin
