Okay so after lots and lot's and lot's of No's Wildan is the name we have settled on for DS, I don't care how many people think it's more of a dog's name (which seems to be everyone's answer to a name they don't like on here) I'm sticking with it unless it's universally hated.

I just want to know what you honestly think of it and what's the first think you'd think if you heard this in the playground/park/street

I've never heard of it before at all, for a person or a dog.

What's the background?

Do you say it with a short 'i' (a bit like will-dun)?

Do does the first bit rhyme with 'wild'?

Pronounced the first way, I'd assume it was a surname name (not my thing, but a well-established way of naming).

Never heard of it. Not a big fan, as sounds like it was made up by someone who couldn't decide between will and dan, but I find that even names I'm a bit Confused at on paper are different when baby arrives and you start using it. Just becomes their name.

@SoWhite It's an Arabic name, that we have no connection to whatsoever but it's the only name after months and months that DH and I can agree on and since I've never heard it either, I'm just trying to figure out what reactions to expect if we stick with it

@AuntieStella It's pronounced with a short i so will-dun is correct

@kittymum03 Haven't even thought of nick names but it certainly won't be Willy

I actually quite like it but also wasn't sure how to say it. Certainly isn't a dogs name and definitely not as bad as some of the horrors I've seen on mn

It sounds a bit dull, tbh. Lots of nns I guess - Will/Willy and Dan/Danny.

He will be called either Will or Dan by his peers.

The name doesn't make sense.

@RiverTam I'm happy with dull :D as long as it isn't thought of as horrid

@Kittymum03 We've spent so long just trying to find a name that we haven't had time to even contemplate nicknames, I might have to get ahead of the nn picking so that I never have to hear him be called Willy

@MaryPoppinsPenguins 'Wild Dan' isn't too bad, I can live with people getting it wrong and it's hopefully an easy name to correct

And I'm really glad to see that a few of you actually like the name :D

I'm sorry, but it just seems too random.

Saying it out loud it doesn't flow very well, not IMO anyway - and it sounds a bit like 'well then' (at least round here) or will do, or well done...

he's going to get an awful lot of 'excuse me?' and 'pardon, what did you say?' throughout his life if you give him this name.

I don't think that's necessarily a gift he will thank you for, iyswim!

I think people will often pronounce it Will-Dan and need correcting. They may also think you couldn't choose between Will or Dan as a name.

I also read it as Wild Dan and thought it sounded like a baddy in an old western.

I like it - plus on the off chance he really hates it, he can always go by Will by I think it's a nice name

I've never heard of it before but really like it. Its different, there won't be 10 of them in his class and I think it would work at all ages - baby through to old man.

I dislike it, it sounds made up, even if it isn't. Actually I'll caveat that - if you were of an Arabic background I'd assume it was an Arabic name. If you were not, I'd assume you made it up. If I saw it written down I'd assume it was pronounced Wild-an.
