At first we really liked Isla but as we have chosen Rae as a middle name from my Partners grandad was Ray. Everyone was saying is sounded like ira and it really put us off! The only other name we liked was Poppy Rae plus we know 3 babies been born called Isla recently! What do you think? Thanks

I prefer Poppy.

lljkk · 06/12/2015 09:56

I worked with a brilliant lovely Lisa Rae. I am not a fan of Poppy so Isla if you must.

Gambia · 06/12/2015 09:57

Think Poppy Rae sounds lovely.

Thank you Gambia plus it's quite respectful to me my great grandad fought in the war and always wore a poppy when he was alive :)

Both are very popular names now. Poppy is my fave tho!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 06/12/2015 11:21

Poppy Rae. Poppy is a fantastic tribute to all our brave men who fought in the war.

Definitely Poppy Smile

I know a couple of Isla-Rae's...and I've got to admit that it always sounds a bit like 'IRA' to my ears. Not the best connection!

howtorebuild · 06/12/2015 11:56

I remember your IRA thread. Poppy is a better fit with Rae.

mydogeatsnutstoo · 06/12/2015 12:13

Poppy Rae is better, it does sound like IRA.

They are both very over used now so I would think of something different if I were you personally.

emmalouise90 · 06/12/2015 12:13

Thank you yes I couldn't et the ira out of my head once I was told it lol

What about Rae as a first name?
Not too many of those running about.

numberseventeen · 06/12/2015 12:22

Also posting to say I would go with Rae, lovely name and less popular

CastaDiva · 06/12/2015 12:32

Isla Rae doesn't sound remotely like IRA unless you have a speech defect.

I quite like Rae as a first name, but I think as a middle name it sounds double-barrelled and a bit hillbilly. What comes immediately to mind is Billy-Ray Cyrus whinging on about his heart.

There are an awful lot of small Islas and Poppys around, if that influences you one way or another. It would rule them out for me, having been the child with four other CastaDivas in my class all through primary school, which is grim.

emmalouise90 · 06/12/2015 12:37

I do like Rae as a first name but my partner is Ray his uncle and grandad also Ray didn't want it to look like she was copying her dads name so would rather it as a middle name where I live there aren't many young Poppy's about but an awful lot of Islas but only recently

Poppy Rae

Lovely tribute

sidonie1 · 16/05/2017 14:18

Love Poppy! And sounds great with Rae as middle name

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 14:21

I like Poppy Rae. Isla Rae is nice too but does sound a little bit like IRA. It wouldn't necessarily put me off using it though if I really loved the name.

SingaSong12 · 16/05/2017 20:21

I prefer Poppy - never heard of Rae but it sounds nice.

Jemimapuddleduk · 16/05/2017 20:52

I love the name Ray/Rae. Really gorgeous.
I think Poppy Rae is loveky.

ShotsFired · 16/05/2017 21:00

What's to stop you calling her Poppy Ray?

I mean that seriously. It's a middle name, she's not going to use it a lot; and Rae isn't like a feminine equivalent to Ray, it's a different name (I mean like Joseph/Josephina which would be a clear tribute, not just a handy homophone).

...Or if you were going to hyphen it (not sure?) Poppy-Ray sounds like a sunny flower anyway!
