Ella or Eva?

Either. They're practically the same name. I don't mean that disparagingly. Just they're the same number of syllables, same first letter, both popular, well known, girly. There's nothing to recommend either as better.

I think Eva is better, i find it prettier and more interesting than Ella.

They're both pretty. for me it would depend what flows better with your surname & middle name choice (if you're having one)

Eva is lovely, much nicer than the currently superpopular 'Ava' if you ask me (but be aware than in many countries, especially Spanish speaking ones, Eva is not pronounced 'eeva' but the same as 'Ava')

Ella is nice as well, though I prefer Eva. But both are extremely popular right now though, if that bothers you?

I've got an 8year old Eva (who's nickname has somehow ended up to be Effie) so I'm a bit biased! I think it's a pretty name, strong but feminine. It also suits all age groups in my opinion, whereas I feel Ella is a little bit more of a young girly name, but that's just my opinion (and Ella is very similar to my name)

In regards to the popularity of it, I'm in a smallish city in the south west and haven't come across another Eva yet. I think it's quite region dependant, and even then, popularity might not be something that bothers you anyway!

Neither, both really overused recently. Sorry.

I also find them pretty much the same, pleasant but dullish.

I have an Ella so I'm biased but they're both lovely. I agree with whichever works best with your surname. They aren't really practically the same unless you're pronouncing Eva as 'Ever' not 'Eever'.

I explained why they're practically the same in my opinion - not pronunciation but syllables, alliteration, over use. Other people agreed too.

i don't know if they are everywhere as some posters have said, but if they are really popular names your DD may not like being one of many in that generation. Just a consideration.

Hmm. They're a bit too common IMO but Eva over Ella.

Prefer Eva, but in the past year I've known about ten babies born with that name, if that bothers you at all. It is a lovely name though..

Eva is a gorgeous name even if it is overused.

Ella seems a bit flimsy in comparison.
