Both names are fine. I'm an Ela and I've never had any problems. Time was people deliberately chose more common names because they were common. It's only recently parents have gone for more and more outlandish names to stand out. Teachers take the Micky and post the silliest names on forums. Your Ella or Eva will be lovely.

One of my middle names is Margot and I was bullied terribly at school for having such an old fashioned un hip name and look at it now. Everything will have changed again in 18 years go with what you like

Eva, but she'll be one of about 15 in her class.

'I like popular names, there's a reason they're popular!'

They're popular because currently in fashion. Soon they'll be unpopular and another name will come into favour.

Few names stay in fashion decade in and decade out.

Prefer Eva.

They've become so popular that they'll probably start to feel dated as people tire of them. I'd choose something else personally.

But if I had to choose, I'd see what sounded better with our surname.

megletthesecond · 30/11/2015 22:39

Neither. They won't thank you for having 3 people with the same name in their class

Personally hated having an unusual name as a child. Vowed to give any child of mine a popular name. And I did! One of your chosen names, OP. Dd takes great delight in the fact that two others, in her ballet class of 7 (and only 6 are girls!) share her name!
Both of your chosen names are lovely. I would.d suggest keeping both in mind, and, when you see the baby, picking the one that seems to suit. Dh and I did this, and found it obvious which to go for when we saw her.

I think we sometimes forget that we name people so they can be identified. Having the same name as 4 others in a class doesn't really achieve that. I hated being one of several, being known as 'big' X or X surname, even at work it is annoying having to add a modifier to your name.

And there are a lot of beautiful names that are not as overused!

My DD is Eva and I love it. I only know one other Eva so I'm really not sure where all these Evas that are everywhere are hiding.

Louise0701 · 02/12/2015 11:24

I have an Eva aged 3 and I dont know any other girls with that name where we live. Theres none in the local school and everyone always comments on what a beautiful name it is :)

squoosh · 02/12/2015 11:24

Eva is a lovely name. Not too frilly either.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 02/12/2015 22:05

Eva is slightly less boring than Ella
