I've name changed, because I can get too easily worked up on Baby Names when they are close to my heart. Blush Need to be calm, need to be calm.

Considering for an imminent ds:

Atlas
Patrick
Benedict
Reuben
Wolfgang (dp's choice...)

I particularly love Atlas, but am conscious of the general ribbing it might get...

I like benedict, but would worry that it would be too popular with the popularity of benedict cumber..what's his face.

CoralieConfused · 12/11/2015 13:04

Oh help, we couldn't have a Zeus! Grin I'm really struggling with this actually

Torn between Atlas and Patrick, and DP is fighting the Wolfgang/Benedict corner pretty strongly.

Yes, the Cumberbatch aspect puts me off - not that I dislike him or anything, it's just the inevitable association.

Wow, I wish I knew an Aslan! Not keen on Atticus.

I love Benedict and had I not already had John-Paul I'd have named DS2 Benedict.

I know a dog called Atlas so I do really like the name but I picture a German Shepherd! Who is lovely I might add.

Wolfgang is a lovely name as is Patrick but I'm not too keen on Reuben.

So I would go Benedict, Wolfgang, Patrick, Atlas, Reuben.

Not sure how helpful I've been!

NKFell · 12/11/2015 15:30

Oh and I don't like Cumberbatch!

I taught a child called Thor. I think once you know a child with any name, however seemingly outlandish, it becomes normalised by familiarity with that child. I have taught children with all sorts of weird and wonderful names, and after a few lessons they all just fitted the child. Al Capone, anyone?

Love Benedict and Patrick. I'm unsure about Atlas and not very keen on Wolfgang (prefer Wolfric). You might like Atticus or Alban?

Hobbitty · 12/11/2015 15:54

I quite like Atlas and don't know any (yet). Easy to spell, pronounce and say. I also like Reuben but it is much more widely used already.

doceodocere · 12/11/2015 15:56

I love Wolfric, I'm adding it to my list.

Atlas is a great name. I know twins Bert and Atlas.

CoralieConfused · 12/11/2015 15:59

I don't know what to doooo Sad Thank you everyone though, the discussion is very helpful. I honestly thought Atlas would be hated, so glad I was wrong.

Atlas is a bone in your neck, or a sculpture or indeed a map. Not a little boy.

I like all the others though, Wolfgang is excellent! Maybe a middle name though?

CoralieConfused · 12/11/2015 16:01

Spoke too soon, haha! I can picture a little baby Atlas so clearly though.

Ohh, jolly Wolfgang. I seesaw so much over these.

It's a physics experiment at cern too...

FlapSnaps · 12/11/2015 16:03

But but but if you love it then you really should ignore me Smile

CoralieConfused · 12/11/2015 16:03

So it is...

I quite like that connection!

I really, really, really dislike Atlas.
Patrick though is great.

CoralieConfused · 12/11/2015 16:16

Atlas and Patrick are very dissimilar in style, I realise. It's quite a weird list.

MrsMolesworth · 12/11/2015 16:18

I love all the wolf name suggestions. Wolfie - what a cute nickname for a small boy! It's great. And then if he is serious and eminent later in life he can revert to Wolfgang. I love it so much. Wish I'd thought of it.

MrsMolesworth · 12/11/2015 16:19

But Flaps the map was named after the god in human form who held up the world, so it started out as a name.

FlapSnaps · 12/11/2015 16:23

Molesworth I know, the same way the famous sculpture is based on the Greek mythology too. And for that matter the reason why C1 is named Atlas - because it it holding up the cranium. I was giving the immediate associations I had with the name, I just can't imagine a little boy named Atlas. A huge carpenter maybe.

FlapSnaps · 12/11/2015 16:24

The cern experiment was just a convenient acronym though, they do that a lot.

CoralieConfused · 12/11/2015 16:24

The thing is, the only Wolfgang I know is an old, overweight German fellow. I think I'd otherwise really love the name, along with DP, but it's really putting me off.
