How long until I remember my baby's name?

Third child is three weeks now - is he destined to always be known as 'dd, er ds, er I mean ds2'?

Well say their names were Molly, Billy and Will - I keep calling third child the wrong name then correcting myself then having to do so again. So 'Moll, I mean Bill I mean Will'. Just wondered if it's just me that doesn't remember third child's name?

yep. do you have pets? I sometimes have to list those too before I land o. the right name.

Well, I dunno, I have 4 between the ages of 12 and 5. 12 and 5 years and I still go though all of their names and the dog's before I arrive at the correct one

Dh calls them all Dave. Saves time he says

I thought I had ds' name nailed, but as he is growing up he reminds me of my db more and more, so he gets called db's name regularly. Dd is known as ds dd.
Dh used to be quite good with names, but tonight he called me dsis , ds , dd ahem Pippi.

I have a DS, a DD and a dog. I often say "Good dog, err girl, err boy", and DS, DB and H all have the same starting sound to their names and I randomly call them all by each other's names. So, in answer to your question, a long time but don't worry the DC will get used to it.

41 here, and the same. She often calls me her sisters' names too, just for good measure.

Lately, however, I have been calling DP the dog's name and vice versa. I think it's the beginning of the end.

My mum blends my sister and my names together. Think Sandra and Stephanie... Standra or Sandphanie.

I tried to feed the whisk as to ds once.

I'm quite good at DD (6)'s name now though was DS's name until she was about 2! DS (9) gets DH and my DB's name before I arrive at his!

I often get DD and her doll mixed up name-wise. Her doll's name isn't even a real name!

I only have one child, she is 8, and I still call her by DH's name or my sister's name..

Children, the cat, everything gets muddled. I find I get less muddled if I label the children a through to c.

DH used to be called the dead dog's name, so mine's not that bad really - the dog didn't even have a 'human' name!

I have a sinking feeling it never stops! My mum is calling me DSis's name.

Poor DD1s name is usually the first that comes to mind and gets shouted when someone is being naughty, then have to apologise when she gets indignant.

Not so much muddling names but an epic name fail anyway which might make you feel better;

Health visitor: "is Bea short for anything?"
Me: "yes, Bridget. No, that's not right. Um... It's Beatrice. Yes, definitely Beatrice."
Long pause...
Health visitor: "do you think you're getting enough rest?"

My lovley recently departed mum would have related to this thread. She would constantly get our names mixed up and call me by my sisters name and vice versa.

I call both my girls Betty, it's not the real name if either of them. Makes my life easier - but I have a one week old DS and he's destined to be called Betty too (poor boy)

I still answer to all my siblings' names and the family dog's name. Awkward as my friend has the same name as my sister, so gets awkward on nights out. I'm a dc3. Call it an extra skill. Congrats... Your brain might come back eventually btw.

My oldest is 25 now.
