Even if you dislike all three, would you please tell me which you prefer? Thanks.

Albert at a push.

Other two awful.

AGrinWithoutACat · 22/10/2015 16:25

Wilbur, that could be a it has the old fashioned ring to it and can be shorted to Will as NN if the person prefers

Hector makes me think of the word hectoring and Albert of piercings so would not go for either of those

Disclaimer as I know not everyone likes thinking of NNs when choosing a name - I chose names for my DCs that had several palatable NN options as my own name doesn't and I spent most of my childhood hating it

Wilbur

I prefer Wilbur and know two Alberts born in the last week if that's any use to you.
Suggests to me it's on the up.

Mummamayhem · 22/10/2015 17:05

Wilbur but Wilfred (wilf) is better IMO.

Hectors alright but albert just seems very severe but it's growing in popularity here.

helentheheron · 22/10/2015 17:16

Wilbur, then Albert. Anything but Hector.

Fyaral · 22/10/2015 17:24

Hector is great. Very heroic. Wilbur makes me think of a pig.

pilates · 22/10/2015 17:27

Albert is lovely, not keen on the others.

LoveAndHate · 22/10/2015 17:48

Thanks so much for responding. I'm finding this so incredibly hard. Last night, in desperation, I asked everyone on fb to choose between the three. The overwhelming vote was for Albert - but every single poster alluded to Bertie as being the reason behind their choice ('It's soooo cute!')

I don't find Bertie cute Sad Actually, I do find it 'cute' but that's what puts me off, IYKWIM.

Thanks, too, for letting me know Albert is becoming popular. I think lots of people see Wilbur as rather ugly, which bothers me a little. Also, Will is so .....Will Carling/rugger/future King of England. Do you see what I mean? He is bound to grow up being called Will.

My daughter's best friend is called Wilbur. He is lovely. It has gone from being a wtf name for me to something I really like.

He is always Wilbur tho - never will.

BreeVDKamp · 22/10/2015 18:01

Oh wow. Albert but none are my cup of tea in afraid. I know what you mean about Bertie - too cutesy. If I had an Albert he'd end up being Al.
Wilbur reminds me of a pig (my fave animal so not a bad thing!), but the 'bur' part just doesn't sit right with me. Not masculine, not cool, not easy on the eye or ear. Just a bit fuddy duddy.

Hector I have no feelings about really.

ktmummy1 · 22/10/2015 18:52

I'm sorry I detest them all! If I had to choose, it would be Albert (Albie for short); then Willbur (Will) and I hate Hector!

Ham69 · 22/10/2015 18:55

Love Wilbur! Albert fairly popular and not keen on Hector. Choose Wilbur!!

LoveAndHate · 22/10/2015 18:58

Thanks! And you really don't need to apologise for hating these names!

I do feel Wilbur is quite groovy in its weirdness. Whenever I see Wilbur Smith in bookshops my love for it is reignited.

What do you all think of Walter? Worse?

OP posts:
wannabestressfree · 22/10/2015 19:06

I love hector and Walter makes me think of Walt witman so I like that too....

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/10/2015 19:10

Hector

thunderbird69 · 22/10/2015 19:12

Will or Wil are nice, but Wilbur reminds me of the pig from Charlotte's Web.

I don't like the other two

Walter isn't too bad, unless abbreviated to Wally.

TheCraicDealer · 22/10/2015 20:21

Hector is cool AF.

and also because Eric Bana

LittleFeileFooFoo · 22/10/2015 20:23

Wilberforce!

I like Walter, he can be wally

darlingbudsofjuly · 22/10/2015 20:29

They're all great names for a tortoise.

LoveAndHate · 22/10/2015 20:31

Is that all you came here to say? How puerile

Leavingsosoon · 22/10/2015 20:32

I like wilbur, although like a PP prefer Wilfred.
