Hello

We have a son (2 in November) Harrison and our surname is Hammond. Our little girl is due 29 December and we wanted to stick to another H name and like the name Hollie and because it's around Christmas time but also love the name Lilly and can't decide.

What do you think?

xx

Hi! Both are lovely. Personally I would go for Hollie over Lilly only because there will be loads of lillies in her class at school- my niece is one of 5 in her year group! Good luck with everything x

kayleighjohammond · 16/10/2015 16:13

Oh really, I didn't realise how popular Lilly was! Definitely making me sway towards Hollie then! Thank you! xx

I think Holly Hammond sounds lovely

I'm less keen on the Hollie spelling

ShatnersBassoon · 16/10/2015 16:21

Holly or Lily look better to my eye, and I prefer Holly of the two.

Lunastarfish · 16/10/2015 16:21

I prefer the name Lily but I like alliteration and Hollie Hammond sounds good!

Lindy2 · 16/10/2015 16:25

I have a Holly. I love it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/10/2015 16:26

I prefer Lily over Holly.

But I do like Holly Hammond.

I don't like your spelling of either name though OP

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 16/10/2015 16:29

Holly. But not Hollie.

overthemill · 16/10/2015 16:32

Please spell it Holly! If you are going to use it. I don't like the name and feel sorry for Christmas babies named Holly. And Lily is so overdone. Btw it is LILY

RiverTam · 16/10/2015 16:34

I prefer Holly to Lily but I think you could be exposing her to a whole lot of teasing by calling a Christmas baby Holly.

Sophronia · 16/10/2015 16:50

Holly (prefer this spelling to Hollie)

AMonsterInParis · 16/10/2015 16:52

I like both but prefer the spellings Holly and Lily.

pilates · 16/10/2015 17:01

Def Lily, spelt this way

squoosh · 16/10/2015 17:30

Lily is very popular but I prefer it to Holly. It seems more grown up to me.

I do like the alliteration of Holly Hammond though.

MrsEricBana · 16/10/2015 17:37

I have a L and although I love it I do think it has become a name of the moment and may really date. Lily Hammond also has a somewhat winter olympics feel (Lillehammer) but I doubt that will matter going forward! Holly Hammond v pretty.

aBrightNewDay · 16/10/2015 17:39

Is it wise to post in your real name, real surname and real children's names?

Haffdonga · 16/10/2015 17:42

Did you realise you are spelling both names incorrectly?

(As they're both plant names there is a correct/incorrect. Both are lovely names. I'd choose Lily).

squoosh · 16/10/2015 17:44

I know a Lillie who was named after Lillie Langtry so variants have existed for a long while.

Bakeoffcake · 16/10/2015 18:09

Yes, these are correct variants of these names.

The name spelling police really annoy me!

There really isnt only ONE way to spell a name. Have a look in any naming book if you don't believe me. There are usually at least 3 or 4 different CORRECT spellings of any name.

PennyHasNoSurname · 16/10/2015 18:12

The only Holly/ie I know is a Hollie. I much prefer that spelling. And she has an H surname too and the alliteration is nice.

Hollie rather than Lily/Lilly any day.

Bakeoffcake · 16/10/2015 18:56

If you take Abigail there are numerous ways to spell it and the shortened versions. I've come across Abbie, Abi, Abby, Abbie, and an Abbey.

They are all "correct" because they have been used in the past and are being used now.

SexNamesRFab · 16/10/2015 19:07

Definitely Holly Smile

celtictoast · 16/10/2015 19:17

Lilly Hammond.

Hollie is a lovely name but Hollie Hammond doesn't flow so well.

mrsschu · 16/10/2015 19:21

Prefer Lilly/Lily to Hollie/Holly. Lily feels like a better name for an adult than Holly. I would also spell them Lily and Holly. Hollie/Holly Hammond sounds nice but calling a December baby Hollie/Holly is a little too obvious IMO.

janethegirl2 · 16/10/2015 19:23

Lily or holly, I don't like your spelling.
You could have lili, Leleith, lilli, or holli if you need to be different but it will cause issues at school.
