Can't decide or agree on a name for our baby boy and he's now three weeks old

My husband likes the name "Patrick James Cook" - I don't dislike it but I'm concerned that it may get shortened to Pat or Paddy which I'm not a fan of! Plus we're not Irish. My Grandmother was called Patricia and I like the fact that it's utilizing her name as she was lovely and I was very close to her. That being said she was called Pat!

We also like the name George but concerned that he'll go to school with lots of Georges and if we were lucky enough to have another baby and it were to be a girl - I've alWAYS LOVED the name Georgina "Geogie" as a little girls name.

I'm now feeling quite stressed as we really can't decide on a name! Please help all inspiration and suggestions appreciated!

Switch it round to James Partick?

Yep, if you want to avoid the inevitable Pat then switch it to James Patrick. It's a lovely name Smile

Aww he's so cute. I don't know why but when I saw him. I thought of the name Simon. How about Simon James Patrick.
But yes I agree James Patrick is lovely. But do be mindful that if you do give him the name Patrick even as a mn. He could opt to use this on a daily basis and also opt to go by Pat or Paddy. Or he could opt to use Jay Jim, or Jimmy. rather than James.
I don't want to make a hard decision even harder but these are all things you have to consider.

He's gorgeous! James is a great first name so (as others have said) why not just swap to James Patrick?

Thanks for the feedback - all name suggestions considered! As I'm finding it so hard! Which I know is ridiculous! We also have another little boy called Jack Alexander Cook who is now nearly 14 months old. What to people think of George Patrick? Or any other names thrown into mix???! Thanks again!

Married to a Patrick. And it's a lovely name. He's rarely been called Pat. He is called Paddy and had been called Patch as a tiny boy. It's a great name

Patrick is a lovely name. It was on the shortlist for our son. We have no Irish connection whatsoever.
Obviously it's very popular in Ireland but you don't need to be Irish to use it. St Patrick was from England and brought christianity to Ireland.

If it's any help, Victor was also on our shortlist along with Patrick. I liked Vincent too but Partner wasn't so keen.

It sounds like you like and want George. You may not have a girl and if you do then you may not like the name then. Too many mays!

George Patrick is lovely. He looks like a little George. Congratulations.

We finally decided with DS the day before he had to be registered - and he was known by a nickname until he was 2!

Whatever you choose, he'll grow into it, and you'll love it because it's 'him'.

Aww. You don't have to be Irish to use a predominantly Irish name. My DD is Bernadette.

But he is adorable and I looked and thought he looks like an Andrew. I don't know why! I like Andrew James Patrick though.

What have you been calling him all of this time??... Have you tried calling him George, James etc out loud? What seems right to you.

Feeling rather anxious..... Maybe it's my hormones but feeling regretful and a little stressed and tearful :-(

My husband wanted to register our DS on Monday and I'd brought the date forward from the 2nd Nov to Oct 19th to encourage us to make a decision, albeit I was prepared to postpone it! But my husband didn't want to.

We named our darling little baby boy "George Patrick Cook" and on the way home the fairground was in our local town so we decided to take our other DS "Jack" to see it and sample a few of the little rides. Whilst we were there we bumped into three other children by the name of "George" all in the space of 30 minutes! I was left feeling Oh NO!!!! "We've made a mistake......:-( Although it's silly, I feel quite stressed and don't know what do as my husband and I can't agree on any other name, I feel I've gone for my second and third choice as my husband wont let me use the name I really like "Archie" Feeling like I need a hug and a kick up the bottom and or for someone to say..."It's your hormones everything is going to be fine with the name "George" Or suggest what I should do...Thanks in advance of your ears and suggestions ladies xxxx

George is a lovely classic name. Congratulations on naming him! Flowers

I remember that panicky feeling after taking 2+ weeks to eventually settle on a name myself, and the worry that you've got it wrong somehow. It's just because you've spent so long going back and forth, sticking on one name now feels odd. It'll just be 'him' in no time at all and then you won't give it another moment's thought - honest!
