How many Samuels / Sams do you know?

Currently my favourite for this baby but it has been in top 20 for many, many years, though I have noticed it has dropped in popularity in recent years and is now down to number 21. Not sure if popularity bothers me yet..

This is my first so am not in the baby / pre school / child circles yet. So, how many do you know?!

I don't know any little Sams.

They must be out there somewhere though if it's top 20ish.

I know one tiny baby but several school age (primary school teacher )

dozens, I think. Of all ages.

about 3-4 per year group of 40-50 in school
A few teenagers and adults.

Must be popular for a reason though! I don't love it but it's a nice, solid name. I prefer Samuel to Sam.

I would ignore the popularity if you love it.

There's a Samuel and a Sammy in my ds's year. They are 8. Can't recall any in dd's year groups, year 3 and 1.

I know 1 (he's 2)

I know one and he's 28. I don't know any younger boys called Sam.

My son's mate in year 9. There are 2 in his year of 120 kids.

One. My youngest DS who is 12. Only come across one more who is in the sixth form and incidentally had the same birthday as my Sam! Apart from that no others.

One preschool age

My BIL and two of my friends are called Sam.
Neighbour's 7yo DS is a Sam.
DD has 4 in her village primary.
Two in DS's village preschool.
DS's keyworker, our postman, one of the bus drivers and the butcher.
The friendly bloke who hangs around the bus stop and knows absolutely everybody is a Sam.
Know of two baby Sams born here recently too.

It's a consistently popular name which spans the generations.

We know two. But it's a great classic name.

Boy or girl? I know quite a few older girls or women (samina, Samantha) and two younger boys (Sami, Samuel). Seems less common as a boys' name but posts on here suggest popularity is perhaps regional as some posters know loads and some know none! It certainly isn't a common name at schools round here.

Ds1's wee pal is Samuel. He was given the name with the intention of being called Sam but as soon as he was able to express it, he insisted on the full Samuel. He's now 14 yr old Samuel and it really suits him.There aren't any others Samuels either...but there are a couple of Sams.

Personally, I know another Sam but he's in his twenties.

I have one, very lovely, Sam! In his year, of around 70 pupils, there is one samuel. I'm glad we chose it for him, as he really suits it, and it's a classic, timeless name. I could be slight biased however...

Thank you ladies, the popularity seems to vary a bit. But am secretly pleased there are not thousands out there.

Loads of them, at least one in every class (primary teacher).

I also know 2 in their twenties.

Several older men called Samuel.

It is a classic, traditional name which will always be used but not 'of the moment' iykwim.

Now it's all Harry and George and Oliver still firmly there (DS 5) in school.

Max is big here, so is James again. We have Frankie's, Freddy's and Bert's too

Samuel was 21st for boys last year, Sam was 140th.

3 aged 5, 7 and 14

I know one in his late 30's, 2 in early 30's and one who is 3. Samuel (nn Sam) is our boy's choice too

There were 5 in ds's class at primary yr 7 now). There were also 4 Bens.
I teach high school and there is rarely a class without a Sam in it .... Under 5? Maybe not so common

My DS1 is Samuel, I still love his name, and he corrects people if they call him Sam don't know any other Samuels or Sams locally, which I like.

My DS 20 is Samuel known as Sam. However when he was in primary he was the only one in his class, and i think there was only one other in the school at the time (210 pupils) and there was 2 he knew in Secondary. My friend also has a Sam in his early 20s.
It's popular but not really too popular iykwim and timeless.
