Nate?

My previous thread was about DH not coming round to the only name I like for 2 day old DS ( and yes, he did watch me go through labour for the third time!!)... which is Xavier (my Dad's family is from Portugal)

So I've had a reluctant look around and I think I also like Nate. I really don't like Nathan though and not sure I want such a long name as Nathaniel as our 2 DC both have short names.

What do you think of it?

Thanks!

I love Nate, but would use it as a nn for Nathaniel. I don't like Nathan either.

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2015 22:30

Love it as a nickname for Nathaniel.

goldglittershitter · 10/09/2015 22:32

Nate is lovely n doesn't need to be short for anything if u prefer.

lastqueenofscotland · 10/09/2015 22:33

Love it

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/09/2015 22:56

Gorgeous name. You can just put Nate on his BC if you wanted. No law about full names. Xavier is gorgeous, too. Pity you can't get DH to agree to it.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/09/2015 22:57

Oh forgot my manners there.
Congratulations on the arrival of your new little princeFlowers

Wordsaremything · 10/09/2015 23:03

I hate Nate. Ugly sounding and American.
Nate would be a 'Server ' in a mid west McDonald's. Greasy, pimpled and sad.
Xavier, for example, is much better.

CakeRattleandRoll · 11/09/2015 03:16

Love Nathaniel nn Nate.
(Also like Xavier.)

Chottie · 11/09/2015 03:33

Sorry and a no from me. IMO it sound too much like Mate.

drspouse · 11/09/2015 05:10

If you have Portuguese family will they be able to pronounce Nate based on the spelling?

Jw35 · 11/09/2015 05:47

Not keen on Nate, prefer Xavier

WishIWasWonderwoman · 11/09/2015 10:36

I really like Nathaniel. Nate by itself I'm not so keen on but nice as a nickname.

Congratulations!

Pipilangstrumpf · 11/09/2015 10:59

I don't like Nate, sorry, much prefer Xavier.

But why do you care so much what we think, your dh and you have to love the name! Good luck choosing!

GummyBunting · 11/09/2015 11:01

I know an alpaca called Nate. It suits him.

FattyNinjaOwl · 11/09/2015 11:02

Don't like Nate. Love Nathan though (I am biased and cuddling my nearly 6 week old one)
Nathaniel is nice, as is Xavier. I prefer Xavier to Nathaniel though.

SillyOldElfBackToYourself · 11/09/2015 11:11

In Gossip Girl Blush Nate is a handsome, high class, millionaire golden boy not a spotty McDonald's sever Grin

swimmerforlife · 11/09/2015 12:46

Really like the name Nate, very masculine. Though I would probably have Nathaniel on the birth certificate.

squoosh · 11/09/2015 13:11

I like Nate/Nathaniel.

Wankarella · 11/09/2015 13:12

I don't like it but only because I dated a 'Nate' from America and he was really arrogant Grin Pre dating him I thought it was quite a cool name.

squoosh · 11/09/2015 14:13

A date with Nate turned to hate?

chrome100 · 11/09/2015 15:34

DP is Nathan. I hate it when his friends call him "Nate". It's just...ugly.

Like a previous poster, I also have bad memories of an unfortunate American shag at university called Nate.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 11/09/2015 16:25

I love Nate/Nathanial. I think Nate on its own is fine if you're not keen on a longer name.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 11/09/2015 16:27

Oh and it reminds me of Nate from Gossip Girl not that I'm a fan or anything who was lovely and rather easy on the eye Wink

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 11/09/2015 16:31

I have a Nathaniel, nobody calls him Nate for short - it's always Nat/Nath or Natty (his rugby coach only).

I kind of think of Nate as a completely different name, the sound is totally different.

TerrysNo3 · 11/09/2015 17:02

After a lot of thinking I've decided I like Xavier best and now DH is even road testing the name for the day!! He's asked me to compromise with the shortened version which I can do so fingers crossed our baby will have a name soon!
