Which boy name? Too weird?

After many months DH and I have finally settled on 3 names.

  1. Haris
  2. Kaysan
  3. Wildan
Now we just can't pick one, I'm leaning towards Haris as the other two I think are rather unusual, but DH is set on one of the others. Are they too weird? And which name would you pick?

Not wildan. Assuming you're in an English speaking country it's likely people will take the piss out of his name and turn it into a pun imo

cashewnutty · 10/09/2015 20:19

Surely it is Harris?

BelindaBagwash · 10/09/2015 20:19

If I was choosing Haris, I'd spell it Harris otherwise he will have to spend his life saying that it's Harris with one r - unless it is pronounced Hare-is and I just haven't heard of it before.

They're all a bit out there for my taste but my children have two of the most traditional boring names ever!!

Doublebubblebubble · 10/09/2015 20:19

Id go for Haris - but would it be pronounced like Harris or Harry??

MarniePaysley · 10/09/2015 20:32

Believe me I've argued for Harris instead of Haris but DH, seems to hate the double R. BelindaBagwash DH was named Oliver and always in a class with at least three other Oliver's, traditional names are sadly a no go area for us. StopShoutingAtYourBrother I'm in London and was worried about that, so Wildan is most likely off the table. Cashewnutty, you would think so but oddly enough the other two names have a decent chance. Doublebubblebubble it would be pronounced Harris

Haris is by far the best - the other two are just too made up out there IMO. But I think it looks awful spelt Haris, it just looks like you can't spell... IMO yuoneeq spellings never work.

LooseSeal · 10/09/2015 20:37

I like Haris, but I think would better with rr, I quite like Wildan, he could be nn Wild, but Kaysan sounds like the name of a sanpro company to me.

coveredinsnot · 10/09/2015 20:39

I love all of them. I wish people were more brave and creative with names in general - what's the point of everyone having the same names?! It's crazy. Be bold and brave!

Hassled · 10/09/2015 20:41

They all just look made up to me. And if you pronounce it Harris but spell it Haris then people will judge your poor spelling ability. Sorry.

Smartiepants79 · 10/09/2015 20:43

All of them look like made up trying too hard to be different names and I, personally, dislike all of them.
I'm a traditionalist and simply don't get the issue with having 'unique' names.
That said, if had to pick one I'd go for Harris.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/09/2015 22:31

None of them would be my style of names but Harris is by far the nicest out of a heinous bunch.
And for the love of God, please don't burden a child with the name Wildan. I guarantee they won't thank you.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/09/2015 22:40

Are you Arabic either of you? Haris is the Arabic spelling and I'd assume you were Muslim if you used it. Harris looks nicer too, solidly Scottish!

CakeRattleandRoll · 11/09/2015 00:15

I like Harris, but please spell it this way.

sallysparrow157 · 11/09/2015 00:21

Going against the grain, I prefer Haris to Harris. I don't like the other two though, they just don't look like names to me.

Tiggeryoubastard · 11/09/2015 00:37

If you must have one, have Harris spelled properly. You'd have to be a complete twat to saddle a child with the others.

dementedDementor · 11/09/2015 00:43

Are those real names or did you make them up? I've met a lot of people and heard a lot of names but those are all new ones to me!

I quite like the sound of Kayson but doesn't look like it's overly popular. The missing 'r' in Haris bothers me and I think Wildan's a bit too weird for me.

dementedDementor · 11/09/2015 00:44

Kaysan* sorry.

Wearyheadedlady · 11/09/2015 00:47

As someone with a "difficult" name I can testify that Kaysan and Wildan are going to give your son a living hell. The only safe one is Haris, spelled however you like, but you should know it will perpetually be spelled incorrectly by people assuming there are two "r"s.

Qwebec · 11/09/2015 00:49

I like Wildan sounds v sexy and strong. MN won't let you get away with an alternative spelling. Kaysan sounds japanese to my ears.

Sophronia · 11/09/2015 11:02

Haris but prefer it spelled Harris

BuckyLastard · 11/09/2015 11:03

Kaysan

KnockMeDown · 11/09/2015 11:11

Kaysan and Wildan are straight off that old CBBC program - Raven Grin

MajesticWhine · 11/09/2015 11:14

They are awful to be honest. But Harris or Harrison are nice.

MidnightVelvetthe3rd · 11/09/2015 11:24

I knew a Haris at primary, he was Moroccan I think so to me its a foreign name, pronounced Ha-rees.

I don't like the other 2, I really don't like them sorry. If I heard it I would categorise the names in the Destiny, Angel, Justice, Kaydan/Caidan camp (all names from our old primary school) as made up & awful.

Twinkie1 · 11/09/2015 11:26

Sorry, I think they are all pretty dreadful!
