Which boy name? Too weird?

After many months DH and I have finally settled on 3 names.

  1. Haris
  2. Kaysan
  3. Wildan
Now we just can't pick one, I'm leaning towards Haris as the other two I think are rather unusual, but DH is set on one of the others. Are they too weird? And which name would you pick?

I know a Kaysan, Haris is ok too

SoupDragon · 11/09/2015 11:35

I think they are all awful.

gohugatree · 11/09/2015 11:39

OP are your family Muslim? Kaysan and Haries are both Muslim names AFAIK. Also, Kaysan reminds me of Cold Chisel Grin

Ludways · 11/09/2015 11:41

I know a Haris, his dad is Arabic, he's never had a problem with it being one r, I actually prefer it.

NerrSnerr · 11/09/2015 11:43

That boy's a Wildan isn't he?

CrapBag · 11/09/2015 11:46

I knew a few people at school who's sirname was Harris (spelled correctly) so to me it's not a christian name and 1 r is a daft way of spelling it.

The other 2 are awful and sound like they are completely made up by parents who are trying to be different.

AMonsterInParis · 11/09/2015 11:54

Haris is Hay-ris not Harris.
Kaysan -what?
Wildan -please don't!

You don't have to make up names to have something a little different. This is a real person you are naming. I know people think that are being yoonike but this child will spend their life having to spell it out or correct pronunciation if you give them one of these awful names.

Chillyegg · 11/09/2015 12:12

Definitely Harris

Koalafications · 11/09/2015 12:16

They are all hideous.

chrome100 · 11/09/2015 15:33

Are they real names? And please, call him Harris. You can't just change the spelling because you don't like it.

RabbitsarenotHares · 11/09/2015 15:38

What about Lewis?

Ludways · 11/09/2015 15:42

Haris is a genuine and widely known spelling, go for it if you want.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 11/09/2015 15:47

Haris as has been pointed out many times is a perfectly useable Arabic name. I do think it's a bit odd to use it spelt that way if you have no Arabic connection.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/09/2015 15:52

They are all awful names and this needs a total rethink from both of you. Haris looks like a spelling mistake; no-one will ever spell it with only one r.

Does your DH also not realise what a burden you would place upon your son by giving him either of the other two names in particular?. Does your DH himself have an unusual spelt name?. Probably not and there's a reason for that.

Names are an integral part of our overall identity; giving him any of those names is guaranteed to make his school days in particular a living nightmare.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/09/2015 15:54

Kaysan, when used as a name, seems to be a Sindhi word meaning "wise". In Arabic Kaysaan [pronounced as (C)all + pr(AY) + (S)m(A)rt + (N)ew] means betrayal, Umm Kaysaan means the knee, and Kaysaan also means "kick to someone's backside." None of the meanings are good in Arabic, for this reason Arabs don't used it as a name

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 11/09/2015 16:00

My dad is African with Muslim Arab background, we have lots of Haris in our family on that side. So it's a 'real' name in that respect, but be prepared for the fact that he will spend his life correcting the spelling for people.

The other two names just sound made up.

coveredinsnot · 11/09/2015 16:13

What about Kayvan instead? (I have a crush on Kayvan Novak Blush)

Apparently it means Saturn.

But does sound a bit like Kevin!

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 11/09/2015 16:30

Sorry but yes they are too weird. A lifetime of having to spell out his name and correcting people Confused

Wearyheadedlady · 11/09/2015 16:49

Haha. Atilla. I would love a name that meant "kick to someone's backside" I think that's hilarious.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 11/09/2015 16:59

All the names look either made up or misspelt to me Confused.

Harris is quite nice. But with two r's.

Kaysan sounds like some sort of disinfectant or sanitary product and Wildan looks like wild 'un, as in "the little lad's a wild 'un" - am I pronouncing it wrong?

TheSpectator · 12/09/2015 15:04

Harris with two r's is fine - other two sound desperately try hard

SmugairleRoin · 12/09/2015 16:59

Haris is the best of the lot, though I did wonder were you Muslim. I much prefer Faris.

The other two are dire.

FrogSong · 12/09/2015 19:15

Harris is the only one I think is okay but spell it with two r's please!

lljkk · 12/09/2015 20:02

Queso = cheese & too close to Que-san.
If it's Hay-riss then why not spell it Hayris, you're adopting it from another alphabet so no definitive way to translate to English, anyway.
