Not Ivor unless you're Russian.

And I don't think one can ever dictate to others what a child's nickname will be.

MsCake · 09/08/2015 14:01

Would you pronounce it eye-gore or the Russian way Ee-gur?

LumpyCustard69 · 09/08/2015 14:10

Like Igor (ee-gor) from Talespin Smile

Parents can't nickname their child??? Confused

The nicknames I have included are the ones I wold use, depending on what suited him best.............

Do I have to be of a certain nationality to be entitled to use names that originate from it? To be honest I don't really like Ivor anyways.

I'm confused..............

All your list is nice but Igor is the best. Unusual but not complicated.

WickedWax · 09/08/2015 14:14

I like Igor, DS has two in his class (both from Poland).

Redglitter · 09/08/2015 14:22

Anything except Igor

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/08/2015 14:22

Maybe it's because I'm older but Igor for me is always a name from Frankenstein films.

Re nicknames - I think what the PP meant was you can decide what nicknames you'd like your son to have, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he and his friends and the rest of the world will use those - they might go for something completely different.

PatriciaHolm · 09/08/2015 14:25

Igor is a hunchbacked lab assistant, specialising in slightly gormless expressions and a gothic demeanour. I couldn't give it to a child!

marinacortina · 09/08/2015 14:31

Adam is the best.
Leon in second place.

I like Anton, which is a bit like a combination of the two. Also has the Russian vibe like Igor.

Yika · 09/08/2015 14:36

What about Ivo?

VixxFace · 09/08/2015 15:23

Igor is TERRIBLE

marinacortina · 09/08/2015 15:30

No, that's Ivan you're thinking of.

reuset · 09/08/2015 16:24

I had to look up Talespin! Too many cartoon references on here at the mo' Grin

No, I don't think you always have to be of a nationality of country of origin to use it, and there's not English alternative version. I think I just prefer your other names more.
Adam is best I think.

Figster · 09/08/2015 16:26

Igor??

Seriously hope you are joking!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2015 16:27

Igor is dreadful, unless he's going to help mad scientists etc.

Adam and Oscar are both lovely. William and Isaac both nice.

FuckingFucketyFuckFace · 09/08/2015 16:27

Igor was a massive vulture butler on the 80s cult cartoon 'Count Duckula' - that was the first thing that came to my mind...

Igor?

This is true Grin

sweetpeame · 09/08/2015 16:53

Isaac and Oscar are the best from your list. I don't like any of your suggested nn though. Would go with Isaac as there are a lot of Oscars around at the moment. I actually love Oscar but didn't even consider it for my DS born this year as it has become very popular. Isaac is a lovely name in its own right, not sure why you'd consider nn Zac which is horrible IMO.

SuburbanRhonda · 09/08/2015 16:55

How is AJ a nickname for Adam? Confused

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2015 17:00

Agree that AJ is Not Good.

CrystalMcPistol · 09/08/2015 18:46

Igor always terrified me.

Igor?
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/08/2015 18:50

Igor sounds like a caveman.

The others are fine.

Ivan?

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 09/08/2015 19:20

Igor sounds like 'something from Frankenstein', but Adam is OK? Grin (don't like either of those names though, sorry). My pick is Isaac, I personally live it, but can't use it myself (surname issue).

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/08/2015 19:56

Mrs GB, I think most of us associate Adam with the Garden of Eden or any of the myriad other uses of the name, which do of course include Adam Frankenstein! Whereas for a British audience, Igor really only has one set of associations, unless you know one personally.

Of the names you've given, OP, William is by far the best.
