What do you think of Herb for a boy? Obviously would be a Herbert on birth certificate. Don't know if I like the inevitable shortening of Herbie though.

I like it Smile

ChampagneShowers · 24/07/2015 23:06

It's a yes from me!
I met one a few years ago, thought it was a great name! Do it!

I LOVE Herb and it is on my list of names.

Quasilulu · 25/07/2015 01:32

I'd think you smoked weed. Not good.

squoosh · 25/07/2015 01:37

Please don't call your child Herbert. I beseech you.

Cool. Sounds like a jazz artist?

SrAssumpta · 25/07/2015 08:58

I'd kind of think like this, sorry!

appleoftheluck · 25/07/2015 09:15

Quasilulu that is what my dp thinks, that's why it isn't on his list!

Daphnedolittle · 25/07/2015 16:58

Love it!

Yarp · 25/07/2015 19:49

Sorry, don't like it.

Herbert - no
Herb- it's a green condiment
Herbie - it's a 1970's car

Yarp · 25/07/2015 19:50

Marjoram?

twirlypoo · 25/07/2015 19:51

I know of a baby herbie and it suits him so much. I would never have gone for it, but I love it now Smile

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/07/2015 19:53

Love this, there are some lovely Lauren Child books about a little boy called Herb, Beware The Storybook Wolves. I would think he was the son of hipsters! Grin

Hobbes8 · 25/07/2015 19:55

I would think of Herb Alpert, who is a jazz musician. Both of my children are named after musicians, but I did have to dissuade my husband from naming our child Grover (Washington jnr) or Duke (Ellington)

janetandroysdaughter · 25/07/2015 19:55

I like it. Weed wouldn't have crossed my mind. It's cute. I like Bertie too - Herbert is fine as a name.

sweetpeame · 25/07/2015 21:06

It's a bit ridiculous sounding IMO.

TheNewStatesman · 25/07/2015 22:01

It's silly sounding, sorry.

villainousbroodmare · 27/07/2015 16:45

I'd use it for a horse. A cob, probably.

herethereandeverywhere · 27/07/2015 16:53

I think of Herb Ritts the photographer. Cool name due to have a renaissance.

I see it in the Woody, Ned, Bertie camp.

Itsbloodyraining · 27/07/2015 17:02

Herb is weed here, so no.

florascotia · 27/07/2015 17:10

In some parts of Scotland and the USA, herbs (the green plants) are quite routinely pronounced 'Erbs'. So a baby Herb might get Erb, too. On the other hand, I don't mind Herbert...

I never knew that was a 'thing' - I thought the woman narrating DD's Barbie video had a speech impediment Blush Grin.

I like Herb, although I must admit the first one that sprang to my mind was Alan's ex-wife's new husband in Two & Half Men which is ironic as my parents have albums full of Herb Alpert

Flutterbutterfly · 27/07/2015 17:26

Yes it's another name for pot. He'd have some interesting nicknames.
