So, if you had to, what region would you choose to name your child, and would it be boy or a girl

Viking
North Utsire
South Utsire
Forties
Cromarty
Forth
Tyne
Dogger
Fisher
German Bight
Humber
Thames
Dover
Wight
Portland
Plymouth
Biscay
Trafalgar
FitzRoy
Sole
Lundy
Fastnet
Irish Sea
Shannon
Rockall
Malin
Hebrides
Bailey
Fair Isle
Faeroes
Southeast Iceland

I'd go for... Malin for a girl and Cromarty for a Boy Grin

I am gutted that Finisterre is no longer an area on the list Sad

Lundy, but not sure whether it is a girl or boy. Good cat name.

AGnu · 07/07/2015 21:41

I think Fisher could work for either sex but could leave them open for fish-related teasing. I'm quite liking Portland as a strong masculine name... I suppose it could be unisex too, it's a bit like Parker.

CatOfTheGreenGlades · 07/07/2015 21:44

Just reading the list is so evocative... immediately feel like it's late at night and some lovely radio 4 person is lulling me to sleep :)

I think Utsire for a girl, Rockall for a boy.

emwithme · 07/07/2015 21:54

DH is going for the unisex Finisterre (he also doesn't care it's not a region any more).

I said Cromarty and now he's sitting over there

SwearyInn · 07/07/2015 21:54

I thought " channel light vessel automatic" was one of the options?

Good for quadruplets.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 07/07/2015 22:21

I knew a lovely Malin.

Malin and Fitzroy.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 07/07/2015 22:25

I like Biscay for a boy and - erm - maybe Utsire for a girl?

I went to uni with a girl called Malin (I think it translates as 'cunning' which would put me off using it).

00100001 · 07/07/2015 22:35

Was your friend a linguist Hainault? Grin

DS has a middle name from the list, it's not Bailey...

Pipbin · 07/07/2015 22:55

Can we go for some of the weather stations?
Sandettie Lightvessal Automatic would be lovely for a girl.

And Thames for a boy.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 07/07/2015 22:55

South Utsire for a girl, North Utsire for a boy. Though I would be hoping for a girl, South Utsire is my favourite.

lilacblossomtime · 07/07/2015 22:59

Dogger would be a good name for a dog.

00100001 · 07/07/2015 23:03

UK coastal weather stations (with aitomatics removed )

Tiree
Stornoway
Lerwick
Wick
Aberdeen
Leuchars
Boulmer
Bridlington
Sandettie
Greenwich
St. Catherine's Point
Jersey
Channel
Scilly
Milford Haven
Aberporth
Valley
Liverpool Crosby
Valentia
Ronaldsway
Malin Head
Machrihanish

Humber

I'd only use it as a middle name and DH would know why. Smile

We didn't use it because we are boring and went for traditional family linked names.

DayLillie · 07/07/2015 23:13

Valentia def. a girl.

BothEndsBurning · 07/07/2015 23:13

James Mason's daughter was called Portland.

BreeVDKamp · 08/07/2015 18:17

Definitely Cromarty for a boy! Can imagine him growing up to be an eccentric type.

Malin for a girl as its a beautiful name.

Teladi · 08/07/2015 18:20

Tiree for a girl (if I'm allowed to take from the weather stations too) and Lundy for a boy

PallasCat · 08/07/2015 19:40

Brilliant post, OP!
Malin for a girl is definitely strong. Liking Tiree, Tyne and Sandettie too, I think.
For boys,Cromarty and Stornoway have a lovely ring to them. Bridlington is very noble... but I think a breed of dog? So maybe not. Fisher's good. I reckon a strong character could manage Viking for a middle name. Grin
Got to agree with PP - Finisterre may be the best, though.

BothEndsBurning · 08/07/2015 19:52
