Baby boy, terrible surname, any suggestions?

Hi everyone. We have just found out we are expecting a boy and are delighted, issue is my DPs surname is.... Wait for it..... Crippin..... It's so hard to think of a nice normal ish name to go with it!! Any suggestions? I like pretty traditional names, any suggestions greatly received!

I think you need a longish first name as your surname is pretty short and clipped. Something like Alexander or Lawrence maybe.

A boy at my school had a similar surname and his name was Daniel.

The solution is obvious, but clearly not one you're willing to countenance - give your DS your surname, especially if you're not married.

Or you can always use your last name.

Is your surname worse than Crippin?

thedowager - no we are not married and that is the primary reason!! giving him my name isn't an option I don't think even though I have a nice normal name IMO! Wend - Alexander is deffo on the shortlist so thanks for that, what do you think of Stanley? Getting a bit more common but I'm warming to it I think....

I was convinced when I opened the thread that you were going to say your surname was Cockwinkle or something of that ilk! Crippin is hardly remarkable, honestly and it's spelled differently from the notorious doctor .

Oh and I think Crippin is ok. Its not like Shufflebottom or Anker

Crippin isn't that bad is it? . I can't think of anything that sounds horrific with it.
I'd give DC my name anyway if I wasn't married to DP.

The only thing I'd avoid would be an R starting middle name if you go with a D starting first name

Why isn't your surname an option? You'll be the one registering the birth, you're his mother.

I'm into sounds. I think Crippin could sound cool if you play on the 'ih' sound.

Another vote for using your own surname. Given that you're carrying and giving birth to him- I'm struggling to see why your nice normal name isn't good enough

Red dwarf - 'the' Dr Crippen was called Harvey I believe, might have been his middle name, that's also the name of our much loved dog

The infamous Dr Crippen was Hawley Harvey Crippen, so avoid that.

I would seriously consider your own surname though.

Ah, but if it's the dogs name u obviously can't also call your DS the same... bugger!
