Jesse?

Hi, I'm currently pregnant with dc2, don't know the sex but I am convinced it will be another boy. DS is Jude, which is my favourite name ever, and am struggling to find a boy's name which I like just as much.

Current front runner is Jesse, which DH and I both like - just wondering what people think of this name and how it goes with Jude?

I also love Gabriel, which DH has vetoed, others on the current shortlist are:

• Dexter
• Alexander

Jesse is great and goes very well with Jude. Jesse Alexander would be nice.

Together with Jude is a bit cutesey for me.

Too many girl Jessie's around for me. Can't take it seriously as a boys name.

I love Jesse. But only cause i love Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad and im not sure naming a baby after a fictional meth addict is a great idea

I like it very much, but it feels very American to me, which I know puts some people off.

I think of the Roberta Flack song.

Thanks for the opinions, I too feel it is a little American which does put me off a bit... Any suggestions for any other names I might like?

Love Jesse for a boy. Think Jude and Jesse would be lovely together

I love Jesse. My grandad was a Jess so it's an old style name for me. I have a niece Jessica though so could never use it.

I love it. My great grandad and uncle are called jesse. Don't think it goes great with Jude though.

Jesse is lovely and, far from being cutesy and soap star-ish, it's biblical. Little bit matchy with Jude but not terrible. I would go for it anyway.

It's not American, it's Biblical. Jesse was the father of David in the OT. Perfectly consistent with your other choice of Jude.

It's a name that has become more familiar, and less likely to be confused with the female Jessie. Unfortunately many people misspell the masculine Jesse as Jessie. Both Jude and Jesse do carry the slight risk of gender confusion.

Funny, my ds1 is Jude and our other option for him was Jesse love the name..but I have a rule of not re-using initials so couldn't use it for ds2..who is Seb.
Other boys names I love in case you like them too..(I can't use any of these for various reasons!) Ralph, Ezra, Benedict, Eli, Reuben, Ira, Josiah, Seth, Wilfred
..but I do agree Jude is the absolute best name ever & we really struggled naming ds2 but once you get to know your baby as that name you love it just as much

My son is called Jesse and I still love many many years later MN is the only place I have ever seen negative comments on it Love Jude too It is anything but a silly soap star name

I really like Jesse but I think Dexter sounds better with Jude.

I love Jesse and wanted to name ds2 it but dh was totally against it saying its a name for a wuss. I still think he would suit it.

Cloud we must have similar taste, I very early called ds2 Ira - I love it! Like Ezra too and Josiah was discussed. We went for Yonah in the end.

Jesse is a lovely name,and with several popular American actors called Jesse, I think most people will see it as a strong and masculine name in the future.
