I really love it and would have Gene for short. DP doesn't hate it but doesn't exactly love it either. Just wondered if it's a Marmite name.

I would say its a marmite name yes. It doesn't conjure up great images for me.

Sophronia · 10/06/2015 14:55

I like it

QueenOfThorns · 10/06/2015 14:59

I'm afraid I really don't like it. For some reason, it makes me think of this guy, although the character (Rick Moranis in Ghostbusters) was actually called Louis!

Ha ha. So it's conjuring up a kind of weak, geeky image?

Gene is a great name.

mrschatty · 10/06/2015 15:03

I'm sorry I just think if Eugene from grease! 'Eu-geeene!' It may come back in fashion!

I think if the owner of the name is cool it becomes cool. Even Colin could be cool if it belonged to some 6ft 2 surfer dude.

Very Marmite. I'm not actually sure which side I'm on!

My first thought was Ghost Busters but that's not necessarily a bad thing :o

sebsmummy1 · 10/06/2015 15:13

I was just googling the name to see if I could find any famous Eugenes to add some credibility and instead found the following definition in the Urban Dictionary;

A guy with a huge cock who gets all the girls. He is the embodiment of awesome.

Gene Hackman is a Eugene, he's pretty cool :o

Ludways · 10/06/2015 15:23

Love it. I lived in the states for several years and over there it is considered quite geeky, but I knew one and he was such a blazing hippy he was cooler than cool.

Didn't Liam Gallagher call one of his ds Gene?

TheFillyjonk · 10/06/2015 15:24

Sorry, I get nerdy vibes from Eugene too as I can think of several shows and films with weedy, dorky Eugenes. Gene is a bit cooler, but just sounds a bit like Jean. I don't think this is much of a problem as Jean isn't really used anymore!

QueenOfThorns · 10/06/2015 15:26

I'm afraid it is a bit nerd-like to me, yes. But isn't geeky cool these days?

(Can you tell that I have absolutely no idea? Grin)

aFullOnMonet · 10/06/2015 15:27

I think of a person called Eugene who was in Big Brother. He was very geeky.

I used to know someone who knew Eugene and was very boastful about it. (Because of his Big Brother fame Hmm). I ended up meeting Eugene through the boastful guy, and he was as geeky as he appeared on the TV.

To summarise, no I'm not keen.

QueenOfThorns · 10/06/2015 15:28

Ah! Here you go - Gene Simmons - not geeky at all Grin

IsadoraQuagmire · 10/06/2015 15:32

Of course it's not nerdy or geeky, it's Gene Kelly's name!

QueenOfThorns · 10/06/2015 15:34

Also Gene Hunt, possibly the antithesis of geek!

sebsmummy1 · 10/06/2015 15:35

I am loving the geeky connotations, so this is making me like it even more!!

SantanaLopez · 10/06/2015 15:37

Fucking awful.

ChaiseLounger · 10/06/2015 15:38

Beyond awful

SylvaniansAtEase · 10/06/2015 15:41

Horrible. Just such a nasal, sicky sound.

Gene is colourless and bland.

sebsmummy1 · 10/06/2015 15:43

Ha ha don't hold back girls Grin
