Hi guys
What do you think of the name Cayce for a boy and how would you pronounce it?
It's a celtic/ irish name and my son has irish roots. It's a real name and pronounced KC.
Thank you

Instant reaction was to pronounce it "case". Then thought it might be a novel spelling of "Casey", would not have realized it is a traditional Irish name.

TheNumberfaker · 03/06/2015 21:39

Why not Casey then?

Kundry · 03/06/2015 21:41

Unless you live in Ireland surrounded by people who recognize the name and know how to pronounce it, no.

If you are lucky people will say Case and think you are weird. Everyone else will think you made it up and it's a chav version of Casey.

casey101 · 03/06/2015 21:41

I just kind of liked the way it looked and preferred it to casey but i dont know really just cant find anything i love!

If I saw it written down I was assume it was pronounced 'case'. If I heard it I would assume it was spelt Casey.

It's not different from lots of other Irish names in that regard, I was at school with a Siobhan and don't ever remember thinking it weird or not knowing how to spell or pronounce it once I knew it.

I don't like it as a name though!

casey101 · 03/06/2015 21:42

thanks all so far though!

MamaLazarou · 03/06/2015 21:43

If I saw it written down, I would guess 'Case'.

How long have you got to decide?

villainousbroodmare · 03/06/2015 21:43

I'm Irish and an Irish speaker. It's possibly an Irish-inspired name but is not in the Irish language as we have no letter 'y' and no soft 'c' either. If I saw Cayce written, I would pronounce it "case" as in suitcase. I've never heard it before.

(The anglicised surname Casey translates as Cathaiseach (KO-hi-sock) and means vigilant.)

SanityClause · 03/06/2015 21:43

Apparently the Gaelic spelling is Cathasaigh.

casey101 · 03/06/2015 21:44

I also put the name into facebook search bar and lots of cayces came up- mainly in america

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 03/06/2015 21:47

If it's casey, very effeminate.
Like it on a girl but horrible for a boy

SanityClause · 03/06/2015 21:48

Cian
Cillian
Conor

RiverTam · 03/06/2015 21:48

Ciaran?

SunshineAndShadows · 03/06/2015 21:50

Would pronounce case
It's not an Irish spelling - looks made up

casey101 · 03/06/2015 21:51

Thank you like Cian but all I see when I look at it is Ian which I don't like. Quite like Ciaran but reminds me of keyring!

OP posts:
casey101 · 03/06/2015 21:53

What do you guys think of Ciaran with the c spelling only?

OP posts:
casey101 · 03/06/2015 21:54

Reiltin · 03/06/2015 21:56

I would pronounce it Casey. But there's no way on Earth that's an Irish name! Not that spelling anyway Grin

reuset · 03/06/2015 22:09

I've never heard of it before, not like that, or seen that spelling.

From Cathasaigh apparently. Interesting.

casey101 · 03/06/2015 22:10

Yes ignore the Irish thing it's celtic my mistake!
