What do you think of this as a name? Came across a little one yesterday and thought "What a great name!" .Under-used and several nice shortenings: Berty/Bert/Gil

Good solid name and likely to be the only one in his class.

Sophronia · 29/05/2015 15:15

It reminds me of Anne of Green Gables. I like it with the nn Gil.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2015 17:49

Love Gil, but not Gilbert.

augustusglupe · 29/05/2015 19:35

O Sullivan.... 'Claire, the moment I met you I swear...' My first thought, sorry!! I'm old Sad
Really, no, don't do it!!

haleandhearty · 17/06/2015 11:33

Love love this name! Nicely traditional without sounding "old-man-ish"

Lovely nickname potential too.

Why are there not more around?

chocolateyay · 17/06/2015 11:37

I like Gil. We had a Gilbert at school - he was called Giblet.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 17/06/2015 19:17

Love the name Gilbert!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/06/2015 19:20

Horrible. Really wet.

Fridgedooropen · 17/06/2015 19:23

I love it.

Anotheronesoon · 17/06/2015 19:23

Don't like at all. Gil Makes me think of fish gills. Albert, Herbert are sweet but Gilbert - no ways. I know a 4 year old called Gilbert and I can't call him his name out loud! Sorry

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 17/06/2015 19:25

Don't like, bUt I think any -bert names are awful.

Only1scoop · 17/06/2015 19:25

Gilbert Grape
Or piles Smile

CaTsMaMmA · 17/06/2015 19:27

i love it... even tried insisting on it, cos i really wanted Gideon and dh disliked that less.

but no go for either of them.

DaysAreWhereWeLive · 17/06/2015 19:27

God, it's awful. I work with one who gets called Gibby. Grim.

MeganChips · 17/06/2015 19:35

I love it! It's quite unusual without being outlandish and Gil is a cool nickname.

cheymommyaz · 25/06/2015 19:43

dont like it sorry

reuset · 25/06/2015 19:45

I like it well enough. I'm surprised it isn't more popular, though it's no rarity.

reuset · 25/06/2015 19:47

Yes, that's it also. A less used proper name without resorting to silly spellings or the ridiculously outlandish

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 27/06/2015 00:05

Anne of Green Gables - swoon!
