Lottie for Violet?
The accent where im from pronounces it more like vio-lot rather than vio-let.
Opinions?

Why the need for a nick name
If you like Lottie, name Her Lottie.

TakeDeux · 27/05/2015 20:13

Not one I have heard before, but I like it

meglet · 27/05/2015 20:14

not really. Isn't lottie -Charlotte?

mrssmith79 · 27/05/2015 20:16

Would it not be Lettie?

Stinkersmum · 27/05/2015 20:16

Lettie is better.

BeautifulStars93 · 27/05/2015 20:19

I wouldnt use a nickname as a full name.
Its not that I prefer Lottie its just something my partner suggested and I think it could work.

Lettie IMO.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 27/05/2015 20:22

You can nickname your child whatever you like! Other people will also nickname her whatever they like... It's something you can't really control then they get to school. I think Lottie for violet seems a little 'forced'. If you like the name violet enough to name her that, why not call her violet?

MerryMarigold · 27/05/2015 20:25

Well my dd's nickname is nothing like her name. But I do think if you're using an established nn, people will assume her name is Charlotte. I have to say 'Vie' is a pretty horrid nn though!

IggyStrop · 27/05/2015 20:25

why would you call her Violet if the name you will use is Lottie?

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2015 20:26

I've never really understood predetermined nicknames, don't they sort of just evolve??

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 27/05/2015 20:29

I'm with Bike. I've just chosen names I like in their entirety for my children. If a nickname evolves for them then it does! I don't see the point in choosing a name for a child before they're born but already deciding to call them by a different name!

BeautifulStars93 · 27/05/2015 20:30

IggyStrop its a nickname.
a name that would be used along side her name. So she will still be Violet but Lottie for short.

Whoami24601 · 27/05/2015 20:34

DS' nickname is bug.

His given name is Elliott...

Caff2 · 27/05/2015 20:35

How the heck is Lottie short for Violet? I have a son called Sam for short. His name is not Saul or Simon.

SuburbanRhonda · 27/05/2015 20:36

So who will call her Violet and who Lottie?

Will anyone ever call her by her given name? If not, why have one?

IggyStrop · 27/05/2015 20:36

If you're going to be calling her Lottie why don't you just make it her name?

Agree with the others that it's a bit contrived and nicknames have a way of outing themselves. We also have a "Bug"!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/05/2015 20:37

No it doesn't work. It would be forced and silly.

Caff2 · 27/05/2015 20:37

My given name is Catherine. I am sometimes that, sometimes Cathy and sometimes Cath. Not Rianne. For example. I do not get how you get Lottie from Violet.

BeautifulStars93 · 27/05/2015 20:38

I dont think some of you understand what a nickname is. Its another name used alongside the given name.
my daughter is Isabelle. I call her isabelle, izzy, belly, izzy belles but Isabelle is her name.
Thats what nicknames are.

So yes Violet would get called Violet.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/05/2015 20:39
Hmm
Caff2 · 27/05/2015 20:44

Yes but how on Earth do you get Lottie from Violet??

IggyStrop · 27/05/2015 20:45

You're right. I don't understand how a nickname works.

DaysAreWhereWeLive · 27/05/2015 20:45

My kids nicknames are, amongst others:

Bear
Pooface
Destructor
Fish-head

I don't get this trying to choose the nickname of an unborn child. That's not really how nicknames work...

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 27/05/2015 20:45

Before Isabelle was born did you think 'I'm going to call her Isabelle but I will also call her izzy, belly and izzy belles' or did they evolve after she was born?
