Brynn for a girl?

What do people thin of Brynn? Will either be Brynn Elizbath or Brynn Alana.

I have heard it a few times on American tv shows or in films, so I definitely think it's more common there! But I really really like it and would be interested in some input :)

It's a nice sound but definitely a boys name. Brianne?

PurpleDaisies · 21/05/2015 08:44

Hill for a boy is great, strong and immovable but totally wrong for a girl.

Girls shouldn't be strong and immovable?!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 21/05/2015 13:07

Exactly Purple. Strong and immovable are bloody great qualities for a girl.

BreeVDKamp · 21/05/2015 13:11

Love it!

Lweji · 21/05/2015 13:16

This
It also reminds me of Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey.
So, definitely no.

florascotia · 21/05/2015 13:17

Indeed - strong, immovable are admirable qualities in a woman. So why not call her by the female Celtic name - Brianne, Brianna - which means 'noble', 'strong' and 'full of virtue/wisdom' ?

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/05/2015 13:22

I find it interesting how people from dominant cultures so merrily appropriate names from other cultures and do what they like with them.

Lweji · 21/05/2015 13:24

Non-dominant too.
If it's not part of your culture there are less constraints and it sounds good to you regardless.
Brynn does have a "female" sound to it, actually, although obviously not for anyone Welsh.

SheThinksShesPeople · 21/05/2015 14:20

It depends how far away from Wales you live I guess. I think it sounds quite nice as a girls name.

She will have her whole life being told that it means hill in welsh though.

switchitoff · 21/05/2015 20:02

OP- seems like you are drawn to Welsh boys' names for your DD! (Bryn and Ryan) so can I suggest Morgan as an alternative? Morgan is at least unisex so you wouldn't get so many raised eyebrows.

Mind you, one of David Cameron's DCs is called Elwen and every time I see that I think he must have meant Elwyn because Elwen is normally used for a girl.....

rastamam · 21/05/2015 20:09

Brynne works for a girl! Brynn does look quite Bryan esque but Brynne sounds good to me.

Elllimam · 21/05/2015 20:42

I'm in the minority but I really like it.
