What do people think of Lesley for a girl. what about middle names to go with it?

I think it's awful, sorry. I know two Lesleys, both in their mid 30's, who both dislike their name. I wouldn't use it.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 18/05/2015 07:58

Really dated and often mistaken as a mans name

VixxFace · 18/05/2015 07:58

Terrible

SirChenjin · 18/05/2015 08:00

Awful name. It's one of those names which were popular in the 70s and which should remain there.

Floggingmolly · 18/05/2015 08:01

It is a bit retro, but I like it.

cosytoaster · 18/05/2015 08:03

Awful, was even awful years ago when it was quite popular

mappemonde · 18/05/2015 08:03

Not keen here at all, sorry.

singlikethepianoMargot · 18/05/2015 08:06

My middle name is Lesley. When I was in school someone in my class found out my middle name and I was teased mercilessly, I was called Lezza for ages, even at my wedding I'm sure I heard a snigger when they said my full name!

I also know a boy called Les and he has been teased at school about it too. I'm not normally one for "don't choose that name they'll be bullied" but in my experience it isn't a great name to have. Sorry.

Dazzalm · 18/05/2015 08:11

My middle name is also Lesley. I am not a fan.

MrsTrentReznor · 18/05/2015 08:14

Another one with Lesley for a middle name. Hate it.
Even my Mum can't remember the correct spelling of it either...
Hmm

User595994944 · 18/05/2015 08:16

Yep, at my school she would have been known as "Lezza" (not by me, I might add) and teased mercilessly. Depressing, but true. So many other lovely names, I'd let this one go.
I

SadLesley · 18/05/2015 08:18

Hey Sad you're all being mean about my name!

To be honest I wasn't that keen as a child but as an adult I am quite attached to it. It is me. It is strong and decisive and take no shit and not frilly, wafty and simpery . It is Scottish and so am I. It is pronounced slightly differently in the country I now live in (but almost always spelled wrong) and I think it sounds nicer.

WyrdByrd · 18/05/2015 08:19

My middle name is Lesley (ironically after my uncle whose middle name is Leslie).

I like it as a middle name as it's fairly unusual (most women around my age have Marie, Louise or Jane), but I wouldn't fancy it as a first name tbh.

WyrdByrd · 18/05/2015 08:20

It is strong and decisive and take no shit

Which perfectly describes the Lesley I know Grin.

As I said, I wouldn't fancy it as a first name myself, but it's a very long way from being the worst name you could give a child.

Bigbadgeorge · 18/05/2015 08:21

It's much more common in Scotland and it is a good name, but in the rest of the UK I fear the 'lezzer' thing (that's what I got at school too!)

TittyBojangles · 18/05/2015 08:26

I wanted Lesley if ds had been a dd but it was vetoed by my dh. I love it.

SadLesley · 18/05/2015 08:36

I thank you WyrdByrd, Bigbadgeorge and TittyBojangles Grin

MrsTrentReznor · 18/05/2015 11:44

Wyrdbird I'm named after my great uncle Leslie! We used to call him uncle fliptop because of his unconvincing toupee...
Confused

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/05/2015 11:48

It sounds so dreary.

SadLesley · 18/05/2015 13:23

Oh well Mitzy it's what you make of it - life and soul of any party, me ... Wink

Eigg · 18/05/2015 13:28

It's a fab name, I love Wyrd's description.

I have several friends called Lesley all fantastic women.

Certainly it is pretty uncommon now so she'd likely be the only one in her class.

If you and your DP/DH like it go for it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/05/2015 13:30

I bet you are SadLesley. But the Lesley in my life is a bit of a pain, she loves a clipboard and an emergency fire drill. Woe betide anyone who doesn't know their allocated station in the case of a drill.

FatWalda · 18/05/2015 14:34

A name from my generation. I've never liked it, it sounds too masculine. Mind you, I don't like Leslie as a man's name either.

Penfold007 · 18/05/2015 14:48

Lesley is a lovely name.

WyrdByrd · 18/05/2015 15:13

These Lesley descriptions are making me LMAO.

The one I know fits that name perfectly - hyper efficient, takes no crap, gets the job done with bells on.

Doesn't seem to working in the same way for me as a middle name as I'm the complete opposite Grin!
